2000 Hours - April 13th, 2520"Crew to the Bridge." Roger said. "Briefing in Five." His finger came off the button for the ship-wide address system, and he turned to look across Ops and the Bridge. So far there were only the three of them: Roger, Trux (if he counts), and Nate simply because he was already there flying the ship. It wouldn't be long until the rest would filter in. They'd been in the black for the past few days, some of them not even knowing what the destination was. Most others didn't know what the mission was. And still fewer knew what the plan was. Not counting a short shootout and chase on Beaumonde, this was their first real mission. Roger didn't expect anyone to dally in arriving. In the short period it took to assemble, Roger activated Ops' holographic projector which immediately displayed the basic imagery of the briefing in blue light. Front and center was a modern building building projected in blue light. A few cutout floorplans were also displayed beside it. Lingering on the periphery was a small display of the planet Santo, a little file on their target, Patricio Corvey, and of course Cobalt.

Vitale was in the galley with Jericho and Ollie when the intercom went off. Davis was calling everyone up front for the op. This was what they'd all been waiting for. For some, it would be a moment to remember they hadn't taken a leak yet. For Vi, it was an exciting moment, like waiting on a block for the gunshot. As twisted as it was, he was looking forward to this. Vi and Ollie exchanged a look, then hopped up in unison and started hoofing it to the bridge.
"Hold down the fort lil miss," Vitale called back to Jeri on his way out. "And go to sleep, it's past your bedtime!"
He grinned back to her, before moving on. Once on the bridge, Ollie went to the copilots station and slipped into his seat, where Vitale went to sit at his console near Davis. He flipped on what he'd pulled up as he gave his greeting. "Evenin Boss." He said. Trux came over as Vi got situated to get attention. "What makes you think I have food?" He asked the dog, scratching him under his ears, and picking some crap from his coat. Trux started panting and sat down next to him, looking around like he was just happy to be here. Vi had been on the bridge a good bit this past week, and in doing so, Trux and he had become sort of friends. Between here and the Galley, you could nearly find Trux all hours of the day. But he had developed an affinity for napping by Vi's feet. Probably due to their shared love of bacon.
He didn't have any bacon now, but he pulled a stick of jerky from his station, and gave it to the dog, who left to go back to Davis. "I was used by a dog, sounds about right..."
Vi sat back, turning his chair to face the holo of the building. He looked out though the canopy, at the looming view of Santo and asked, "We in final entry pattern, or gonna orbit a while?"

Dez was leaning over a work bench piecing together a weapon he was starting to refer to simply as the beast. A small smile crossed his lips as he placed the finishing touches on the barrel, he needed more parts before he could finish it, but this he could do for now. Once the call came over the coms, he quickly put his work away and hid it so Vitale couldn't find it. Picking up a rag and cleaning his hands as he made his way to the bridge, he stopped by the galley and picked up an apple which he promptly started to eat. Stepping into the bridge, he offered a nod to Vitale, before looking at Davis. "Captain." With that he found an empty seat and sat down, waiting for everyone else.
Dez pulled a knife from his pocket and started cutting into the apple, eating it piece by piece. "That's one big skyscraper." He muttered, his mind already working over anything they would have to do with this sitting here. He hoped they didn't have to storm it, that would be bad. Stealth would be far better, especially for a building that size. Most places in the core hired top notch security, at least the ones on Osiris had.
Of course he was tired of being cooped up in the ship, a little run out and about would do him some good. Particularly if they managed to get in and out without being seen, but he did know how luck tended to go around groups like this. Good, good, good, bad, somewhat bad, really bad. They'd just have to make sure that didn't happen.

Naturally, the medic was within the sanctuary of her infirmary, although not as alert or hard at work as anyone else might be. She had been up all "night", working through medical journals off the Cortex, staring at that screen for hours. It was still popped up on her desk - having a desk was quite nice, her seat a high stool with a chair back to it for comfort. And the table itself was lit up underneath the surface, also acting as a second screen should she need it. There were also actual books splayed out across the table, some open and some closed. Then, of course, with her head in the fold of her arms, was Rosalind.
The speaker system jolted her away, her head rising and a deep breath being taken sharply in through her nose. Stormy eyes were wide and bleary, for a moment confused as to where she was - because it wasn't looking like a terrible little apartment she had left behind on Beaumonde.
"Oh. Right." She spoke quietly, to no one in particular. Mostly because no one else was there.
It was a few moments later before the good doctor shuffled her way onto the bridge, finding a few faces already there. She gave them all each a nod, and listened in to catch up on what was going on. Arms were folded across her middle, finding herself some place to lean as she was still somewhat waking up from her impromptu nap.

Keller had been in the midst of exercising with Lewis. Lewis was holding her feet while she did crunches when the intercom went off. She paused in her upward pull to listen, then Lewis released her tennis shoes and the two headed out together, both wearing their sweats and paying no head to their appearances when they headed in. It was good news; she was starting to go stir crazy.
She came in about the time Vitale muttered his I was used by a dog, sounds about right...
”Not for the first time, huh, Vi-Vi?” She goaded idly, moving to sit in an unoccupied console and scrubbing sweaty tendrils of red hair back with the rest of her pony tail. Lewis moved to the side and just leaned his right shoulder against it, bracing the wall in the event of a cave-in.
”Evenin'... or.. somethin.”
There really wasn't much of a notion for day or night in the black. There were waking periods and sleeping periods, and with no strict protocols, it all just kind of seemed monotonous. Besides, with the Knox plants in the crew coming down from "magic dust," the sleeping periods were a hell of a lot shorter for her and the Syndicate boys. One conscious experience just rolled into the next.
More time to find boredom.

Ollie and Vitale were the first in, quickly coming from presumably the galley just down the hall. The copilot slid into his seat and the gunhand went to one of the consoles in the ops section, his unofficial home on the bridge. He was followed over there by Trux after the dog had first given Ollie a sniff as he passed but decided his luck was better with Vitale. They were followed in by Charlie and Marco who presumably had come from further aft on Deck 2. Then came the doctor, Rosalind and Mitch from even further aft. About the same time as Desmond enter the bridge with apple in hand, Keller and Lewis entered from the opposite direction up from Deck 3. The last to enter was Luther and Mai leaving only Kyle and the cook, Jericho. Roger nodded or in some other way acknowledged their entrances in turn and then began the briefing, the last two members not being essential to the plan and requiring anything more than "stay on the ship and do your job." Roger ignored the minor chatter about Vitale and Trux, the target building, etc. He didn't really care to respond and frankly he couldn't be expected to with the room filling up. All, or mostly all, assembled in one place, the size of the crew really became evident. There were thirteen people and one dog all on the bridge from the pilots at their stations to Luther standing in the doorway. "We in final entry pattern, or gonna orbit a while?" Vitale asked as things started to die down. Roger too glanced out toward the small green-blue world not all too far off. It was all the more noticeable thanks to the large contrast with the not too distant star off to the left*. "We'll make our approach immediately." Roger responded, as much to Vitale as to the two men flying the ship. In truth he'd have preferred to wait, but this wasn't some podunk world where you could easily just hang up in orbit and go unnoticed. Santo wasn't exactly Alliance central but it was heavily trafficked and such a maneuver might raise suspicions on a mission where they wanted to be as low key as possible. They had to make their approach and land as if they were like anyone else, eager to reach their destination and be about their business. Turning back to the holographic display in the center of the operations section, Roger began to run the presentation. "This is our target, Patricio Corvey." he said as the image appeared in the center of the display. "He's a Cobalt lieutenant, the man Cheverus' information from back on Beaumonde has led us to. He used to be close to our target and by all reports still has considerable contacts with him. Currently, however, he's been assigned to work with this man," another image* came into view, "Matthew Sutton. Sutton is a wealthy businessman and Corvey is his security chief. In truth, the two men also run a side business in human trafficking, kidnapped companions in particular." In short they were bad men, but Roger didn't need to tell anyone that. "This is the Mirador Tower." the captain continued, this time the tower image returned to center view. "Sutton's business occupies four of the uppermost floors. It's about what you'd expect." Four floor plans* slipped out from the building and displayed themselves. "Except for the beefed up security section on the second. There's also a landing pad on the third." Davis finally paused to allow the others to glance over the materials before them and to ask any questions about the operation so far. The specific details of the plan would follow. *Santo is closer to the star Qin Shi Huang than Mercury is to our sun, Sol. *Jules or Onas can come up with the PB for him if they desire. * Maps are below. The schematics we are viewing IC are not THAT detailed, but no way I'm making two sets of maps, one bare bones blue prints and the other showing where every chair and desk is. Most images should speak for themselves except Floor 2. The upper area with beds is a guard barracks while the lower area is a holding cell area for criminals/human trafficking they feel stupid enough to bring to work. The computer area on the right is the security camera room. The computer area on the left is merely a server room. 1 2 3 4

Vitale made a simple gesture and face at Keller that said all he felt was merited, for the jest. He smiled but sat back. Davis started the briefing shortly after, as the majority of the crew had reported, all that were essential to the mission. It was probably better that Jeri wasn't here for this part of the job, she was just an innocent girl, but far too interested in what they were about.
Davis broke down the basics of what he'd learned about, and what they'd discussed in private, and set the stage. He also made it clear that they would be landing on the planet. Santo wasn't an Alliance mainstay, but it wasn't some jerkwater planet on the rim. Could be issues with getting landlocked with this mission, he'd ask if it wasn't covered.
When Davis brought up Sutton and Corvey, Vitale saw the cells located on site. But held his question for a better time. Davis pulled up the schematics for the tower, and Vitale slid a copy to his station. He separated the four floors from the main building, and flipped them up, then laid the walls down. He pulled up the third floor, and checked the route he'd looked at for the entrance. He transferred the suggested route for a dropship incursion from the fourth floor, and shifted it to ready, then gave Davis the signal for it. At Davis' command, one click, and they could all see the ideal plan. Of course, nothing ever really goes to plan, once the first bullet flies by.
He sat back again, and waited for Davis to pause, then asked his questions, "Are we planning on bringing any of these people back with us Sir," He figured the answer, but the dropship was big enough, you never know. "Also, what are our plans to avoid landlock, and our contingency if that should happen?"

Dez listened as Davis went on about their mission, his eyes narrowed as he went on. This wasn't exactly his forte, but he knew how to plan this out. Four levels, three had the landing pad and two had beefed up security. Knowing their luck their target was on the top floor past all the security. He looked at all four floors, he spent a few moments looking for a pattern, or something he could twist to the crew's advantage. "While it's most likely not what Vitale had in mind... Why don't we sneak up to the second floor and release the captives? If we let them escape and then create a distraction after they're safe, well, that makes things easier on us. Draws away some of the security."
Dez went back to looking at the floor plans, there must be some way they could get it all working. "I don't know. Maybe it'll work.." He let his mind focus on the solution rather than the problem, trying to figure out how to make it all work in their favor. Of course he wasn't alone on this, so he didn't need to work on the whole problem alone. Standing from his chair he moved closer to the view and leaned against a console, being careful not to push any buttons.
Dez nodded at Vitale's concern with getting landlocked, "I can rig something up to give a false impression of us getting landlocked. We'll still be able to get away safely, at least if Santo's security isn't as high as say... Osiris, I can keep us from being landlocked." Of course the false relays and signals he used were several years old, he hadn't been able to update them in years. "Plus, I could probably remove the governor which is what puts us in a state if landlock anyway. It'd take me an hour, maybe two."

Sutton. That name made her blood run cold. Greater than Sutton was his team of lawyers. You could almost see the shed skin still clinging to their shiny, professionally polished black shoes. They'd actually had the nerve to file orders of restraint against some of the former companions who'd spoken up against them, some of whom had been picked off while in protective custody just before others refused to testify. Of course, he'd expressed his deepest condolences, but had a nice after-school special comment about the dangers of that archaic profession from earth-that-was, praising the Alliance-endorsed companion houses for cleaning it up, making it nice, and safe. Prick.
That wasn't the worst thing, though. The worst thing was that even if he'd gone to prison, he'd still have won. The former companions were still afraid. He'd robbed them of their power and dignity. Many of them contracted communicable illnesses and were banned from continuing their work, and those who weren't retired and returned to their respective houses anyway to spend their lives in their almost religious sanctuary attending to other things. Essentially... he destroyed them, whatever they'd been, irreparably. He was one of many that a former fed would have liked to string up with a noose made from all of the miles of paperwork used in the litigation.
A former fed, but not a gun hand interested only in her prize. She got by only bristling a little. That was several years behind her, and whatever else her thoughts, he wasn't the main goal. The main goal was the first man, a glowing 3-dimensional image that didn't quite convey his stature or dangerousness in its meticulously placed lines. No, Sutton wasn't the goal... satisfying collateral damage if it happened, more than satisfying, but not the end game. They should encounter Corvey far, far easier. There was a recurring theme with men on top that they tended to ditch situations that threatened to impose harm to them personally. They had knights, rooks, and pawns---they were the kings in their own world.
The mention of releasing captives was altruistic. She'd have gone with that plan in a second. ”Really depends on how locks are set up,” Came her only comment to that end. Guards and bullets were pretty much the expectation. Locks that could be released at a terminal, she had enough hope in Mai to slap her on the back and wish her happy hacking. Lock and key? That was time they probably wouldn't have.
She'd really only encountered women who'd been sold... not his own stock.. and frankly, most of them were doped out of their minds and semi-comatose before they'd realized they'd been in a new vocation for a week---and that was an observation that she wasn't at liberty to make. A rescue seemed... a grandiose perfect-world ideal, at best. Then again, they'd found them in some pretty nasty dives. Not his place of business. Maybe they'd find the floor room models up there. Or not women at all, possibly just malcontents or bad employees awaiting termination.
Head of security... two behaviors seemed likely, depending on the man. A micro-manager would be constantly watching cameras and putting the fear of God into his guards. They'd be making rounds like the boss was watching because, well, the boss always would be. Stood to reason. The terminals were on the second floor, by the schematics. Blinding those would be the obvious solution, as well as putting a good chief in intense end-of-the-world action mode. Tense asses made for quick triggers. Putting segments on loop as needed would be nice, if that was even within the realm of an option. She waited for the grand scheme, though, hoping it would cause a huge fiscal dent for Sutton. Still, it didn't leave her with a very good feeling to know that her new life was swooping so close to her old one. It wasn't an irrational fear, either. Just... well, one she couldn't voice in any way.
This was necessary and happening.

Roger saw as Vitale transferred him an electronic file he'd been tinkering with for the past few seconds, and then the man followed up about the holding cells and the potential for a landlock on the Peerless. It was quickly followed by suggestions from Desmond on both accounts, and Keller and a few others giving small comments on top of it all.
"This isn't a jail break." Roger finally stated once the idea had gone around the room. "And that's not the kind of help we want." Best case scenario they had more bodies join the fight as Desmond seemed to picture it, but that meant that their silent infiltration was out the window. It would only be a last resort to cover their asses if things already had gone to hell or maybe a parting gift on a timed delay once they were well away. Worst case scenario they'd have a bunch of unknowns running through the fight whether they be scared and weak companions stumbling into the line of fire or crazed lunatics ready to kill any sonofabitch they find, Cobalt or not.
"We don't even know if they're holding anyone." he added. They could get there and find eight empty cells, certainly not worth the extra time and detour. "If the plan goes perfectly, then we might see about pulling some out with us, but they're not the mission." As he spoke, the captain scanned the faces of those in front of him, particularly those going into the fight. In a crew of mostly career criminals, Roger was likely the one who was most upset about having to leave them behind, he it was the command decision, the tough choice he had to make. "Everyone got that?"
After a moment Roger continued. "No time and no need to worry about the lock." he said regarding the next point. "We'll depart in the dropship and head to the mission. When we execute, Peerless will lift off and head toward us. We'll rednesvous mid-air as we break orbit." There was no fancy hologram display of this part, but who the hell cared. "No lock if we're not on the ground." he concluded. "And with luck they won't even know a thing until we're halfway to Halo."
"We expect 15 to 30 security personnel when we hit tomorrow evening, no more than 2 to 8 civilians should be inside at that time." Roger said as he continued with new material. He looked to Vitale then Keller as he spoke. It was a mighty wide range of unknowns actually, but it was better than nothing. "We'll infiltrate, use suppressed weapons, and hopefully exfil without an alarm." Whether they'd exfil without leaving a trail of silent corpses was another matter entirely.
"You're in the game too." Roger said as he then turned to look at Desmond before shifting to Ros who'd remained the silent since arriving. "And I want you in the bird with Riley if we need you." Finally, looking toward Mai, the key to the entire operation, Roger added, "Miss Choi will infiltrate ahead of us and neutralize their security measures for our arrival." There was the basic roster. The specific details of the plan would follow. Roger paused a moment to allow more concern to be voiced while he glanced down at the proposal Vitale sent him earlier.

Vitale nodded as he expected everyone else would, at Davis' decision about the civilians. Davis was the most honorable man here, and that was a tough call to make. But if he could live with himself after, then Vi wouldn't say another word. Davis didn't need to be reminded what those people were up against, and unfortunately for them, they were not the mission. He didn't know Onas Knox personally, but he knew what they were being paid for, and what they were not. Vitale had enough innocent blood on his hands to know that the captain didn't make the call lightly, but he had made the call.
And Vitale, would not be the one to throw a stone.
Roger wanted confirmation from everyone, perhaps it was the automated soldier still in him, but when his superior asked the atypical 'do you get me', Vitale responded without hesitation. "Yes Sir."
After that, he switched gears to Tali's second concern. The landlock, which would not be be an issue, since they would not be there. All of the heavy hitters were going as well. Vitale grinned to Desmond and gave a single nod to the man when the Cap put him on call. And Rosalind as they'd discussed, would hang back in the shuttle. So all loose ends were covered with personnel, now it was just a question of getting in. So silencers and stealth, Vi had trained in stealth, and Keller was suppose to be his partner, which was fine, she'd worked with the Enforcers, and Vitale could personally attest to their ability to get in and get out quiet. If he had to doubt anyone on the ship for being here with a less than adequate resume for their position, he'd have pointed to himself. A failed soldier, and a failed merc. He didn't know what everyone on the top shelf saw in him, but he knew that he had a personal drive to see tomorrow through. Davis finished up and looked around, they had another chance here to express their points of view. That was probably the one thing that the modern military was lacking in. Tons of experience in your group, and taking advice from none of them. Davis encouraged it, and used what he wanted, applying the best of each member's talents thus far. Vi hoped that proved a boon, and didn't backfire. He'd always wondered how an op would go, had a commander run it the way this was being done. Vi waited until everyone had talked out their roles, then asked the big question. "With regards to Mai, exactly what will she be doing to clear a path for us?"
After the Captain answered him to satisfaction, Vitale stood up and walked to the main holo projector. He switched to the specific floors that the landing pad went to, and the one above. Then, the building rotated, and the view zoomed back, and a red line started from the roof, and followed the ideal path he'd laid out. There was a spot on the roof where he and Keller could infiltrate, and skid down an elevator shaft by way of the engineering access, and hit the upper floor. Once there, they hit the main objective, and exfil to the third floor, while Davis and his team, work their way up. If any radio traffic pings, hopefully, they would catch the signal. Riley would meet the whole team at the helipad on the third level of designation. Davis would now make his changes, or approve Vitale's plan. He looked to Keller, to see what she thought, hoping for a satisfied expression. If all went to plan, it would be just like the Captain had said.
In, and out.

Dez listened as Davis detailed the no freeing the captives portion, he understood the reasoning behind it, add to that they weren't positive there were any captives and it made sense. Didn't mean anyone had to like it, he knew Davis didn't like it, he was a good man. That was one of the reasons Dez didn't mutiny right then and there. Other than the fact that he wouldn't live for the rest of the hour if he did. Besides, if he mutinied then he wouldn't get paid. Payment was always the best part of any well balanced job. "Understood captain."
Desmond smiled as Davis explained his way around the landlock, it was a great plan, easy quick and fully functional without any extra work. Vitale took care of the, "What will Mai be doing for us?" Question, so he stayed quiet for the moment. Then they went into the entrance and exit paths, two, two person teams one from the top and one from the bottom. Sounded good, seemed like it would work. That was granted that something didn't go horribly planned from the time it began until.... everything went to hell. Yeah, that was something to avoid.
He was going in with Davis according to the plan that had been outlined for him, that suited him just fine. He preferred the 'walk right in the front door approach.' "What's the time table on this?" Dez wanted to know how fast they would be moving, for stealth he already knew that he needed to change his own personal load out, and a timespan would help him figure out what type of weapon to bring. Everyone also already knew that if they needed anything to come talk to him, the sooner the better too, they only had hours for him to prepare.

Of course, Rosalind hadn't just fallen asleep during this whole briefing, but the part of her still groggy had wanted to, and that wasn't even anything to do with all the serious planning. When Roger kicked into gear with the main bulk of the operation, Ros was attentive, but wholly quiet. There hadn't been many instances when she was involved in an operation of this scale, and the closest thing she could imagine were all old war stories now. Sometimes, it was easy to forget you were a soldier once. All that time being an unlicensed doctor in a rathole clinic might have had something to do with it. Her parents had been more of the types. Infiltration, in and out, quick and quiet and one bounty dead or captured. Shame those expert skills never rubbed off on Rosalind, right? Or maybe that was a good thing...
"Outnumbered and out-gunned. Sounds familiar." Ros commented wryly, after the explanation of the manpower they'd be dealing with - and also offered Davis a knowing glance and a humourless smirk.
It was a good thing their kind were known for taking on something with odds or numbers against them, but at the same time Ros didn't doubt the crew. Hand-picked criminals from the 'best' of the Syndicate. Apparently this Onas Knox liked to invest a lot into his ventures and didn't like to half-arse it.
She took special note of when and where she would be needed - on the shuttle. Just out the way and in an accessible place to do any emergency field medicine - which had really been her forte back in the war. It was how she was trained up to now. Only now she worked out of actual infirmaries as opposed to foxholes and trenches.
"I'll make sure to bring some light reading material for the wait."
After that, more questions were risen in regards to specifics, and Ros went back to being more quiet and less helpful. She was the medic, after all. Her input would equate to saying 'try not to die'. She was there because she could fire a gun adequately enough for it to matter and stabilise anyone wounded in the line of 'duty'. If it al went smooth, she might not even have to leave that shuttle.

The crew seemed to accept his decision about the potential prisoners through a collection of affirmative responses, head nods, or just silence from a few. Good. The last thing he needed was dissent, at least the vocal kind. They could all complain after they had a successful mission. And then maybe they could find themselves a new ship to work on. This was a dictatorship after all. Just because Roger didn't rule with an iron fist and actually listened to what his crew had to say didn't mean that the captain had anything less than complete authority.
"Just about everything." Roger replied to the question about Mai's integral part. "First, Miss Choi will gain access to the Cobalt systems. All cameras and other sensors will be given fabricated footage, giving the benefit of a loop with a lower chance of detection by an observant monitor. All alarms will also be cut or rerouted to nowhere." Therefore, if they were detected, a hard wired building-wide alert would not notify reinforcements, and no calls out to law enforcement would work either. Only a direct call over a personal radio would work.
"She'll also install failsafes, just in case." the captain continued. "If someone notices the cameras are amiss and bypasses our override, we can kill all cameras." It was a dead giveaway that something was wrong but at least you didn't have the enemy following all your progress. "As needed, we could also cut power to various areas or the entire building if needed to cover an escape or isolate enemy groups." With luck they wouldn't need any of that, but it was there in case they did. "She'll then be the first to board the dropship when it arrives."
"As light as you can find." Roger replied to Ros's little jest before turning to Desmond's related question. "It all depends." he answered truthfully. "We don't know where the target is, exactly how many men will be on shift, or other obstacles that might be in our way. Could be anywhere from two minutes all the way to thirty minutes from first contact to extraction." They wouldn't be sitting around still trying for him if there was a thirty minute long exchange of gunfire in the middle of a city, but they might sit tight and take their time progressing while still undetected. "Sorry, I don't have a better answer for you."
Now Vitale's plan was up. "We'll see how Mai's infiltration goes first." he explained. "If all goes as planned, that's how we'll do it. Matheson and I will come up from below once the systems are down while Cordoba and Gunn infiltrate from above. We'll each clear our floor, should be quick with limited resistance." The display went back to blueprint and the floor breakdowns. "If we don't find the targets then we proceed to search the middle floors. My team will carefully work through the security floor, likely the most defended by far. The other team will clear their floor, presumably with little trouble, secure the landing pad in time for the dropship to arrive, receive Miss Choi, and then come to aid us on the floor below if the target is still not located."
