Ship Layout
Peerless is a large ship with four decks (though two are half decks). It might get a bit confusing at times but I hope the following design layouts and accompanying descriptions of the areas will make it easier for you to navigate. If the images below are too small to see, attached at the end of the thread are the top three decks which can be opened in their full size.
Master Key1 - Supply Closets and Lockers
2 - Escape Pods
3 - Vacant Crew Quarters
4 - Prisoner Cells
5 - Stairs
6 - Ladder
7 - Gunner Station
Deck 1 Captain's Office and Quarters - One of the perks of command is that you get two rooms. The office is more a place to dump paperwork and spill over from the more private living quarters beside it. Also a good place to give stern "talking-to"s to crew members. The captain also has a small personal bathroom.
Torpedo Room - What was originally an observation deck has been militarized into part of the ship's primary armament. This narrow room has tubes along the port and starboard walls with all manner of mechanism in between to load either torpedoes or probes into said tubes. This room is for loading (and unloading) only with the bridge actually controlling the tubes.
Ladder - Between the Captain's quarters and the torpedo room is a ladder down to the area just outside the bridge on Deck 2.
Storage - The primary purpose of this room is as the magazine for the torpedo room next door. Extra torpedoes, specialty loads, replacement parts, etc. are stored here. However, the room has space enough for other items and serves its purpose storing numerous miscellaneous objects.
Conference Room - Used for crew meetings (which are few and far between) but more often for formal vid calls to clients. Since the observation deck was converted into the torpedo room this room has also been unofficially turned into the Deck 1 lounge.
Crew Quarters - Private rooms for the individual crew. You can find these all over the ship.
Stairs - Top portion of the stairwell from Deck 1 down to Decks 2 and 3.
Elevators - Two elevator banks service the Peerless. Both are wide freight elevators that access all four decks. The shafts also have ladders within them so personnel can move between decks even if the elevators are offline.
Point Defense Guns - The Peerless has several such stations (the "7"s) around it with two of them being on the top deck. When under attack, a crew member can man the gun and provide defensive fire for the ship.
Deck 2 Take a minute to actually study it before freaking out on me. It's not pretty and colorful like some of the layouts but hopefully it gets the job done.
Walk-through From fore to aft.
Bridge - Easily the most complicated part of the ship, the bridge can be broken down into two parts: the bridge proper and operations. The former is where you fly the ship while the latter is more of a command center. More can be found
here.
Ladder - Just aft of the Bridge is a ladder up to Deck 1.
Supply Closets - The two "1"s up near the bridge. These are for "emergency" supplies, not your basic everyday stuff which would be in your personal quarters, in storage, or even in the cargo bay. Stuff like environmental/space suits, fire fighting equipment, basic weapons, etc. can be found here.
Escape Pods - You'd probably rather be in the shuttle when abandoning ship, but that nice big shuttle is all the way aft and you're all the way fore by the bridge. Sure, it might be more comfortable to be in the shuttle but if the ship is blowing up around you it's better to be alive in a small pod than dead while dreaming of a nice cushy shuttle seat.
Galley - This is where you eat and generally lounge around. There is a large table to eat family style, clean your guns and practice your war cries, get slashed across the chest because you look better in red, etc.
Stairs - Middle section of the stairwell that services the three upper decks.
Lavatory - Most quarters will have a basic sink and a "disappearing" toilet that retract into the wall so you don't have to walk down the hall to find a toilet when nature calls, but when it comes to showering this communal room is the only place to go.
Supply Lockers - The "1" by the elevators. Similar in purpose to those up by the bridge, but merely lockers along the wall rather than a small walk-in closet. Useful for grabbing gear on your way down to the cargo bay.
Engineering - Peerless has four big ass engines. There's tons of shit connecting them to each other and the core not to mention all the other various components that need a place to live. You typically wouldn't go back here unless you're fixing something or hiding something. There are ladders down to the engineering section of Deck 3.
Point Defense Guns - There are four gun stations on Deck 2 (the "7"s). Two are in the forward sections of each engineering section. The other two are in either shuttle equipment closet facing aft.
Elevators - Same as for Deck 1. These elevators connect all four decks.
Kitchen - You might sit down to eat in the Galley but the food comes from and is prepared in the kitchen (and sometimes consumed there if you're just stopping for a midnight snack).
Crew Quarters - More personal living quarters for the crew.
Storage - Conveniently placed next to the kitchen and the elevators, this is where all the "crap" that the ship needs is stored. Extra rations, spare parts, luggage for that crew member who has more bags than they have room for in their quarters, etc. Sensitive cargo you don't want down in the bay can be placed up here or if you're riding real heavy with a full bay maybe you'll just toss a few more crates up here. The storage room up on Deck 1 serves as spillover if necessary.
Medical - This is where the doc works on the sick and the wounded. Attached is a closet for medical supplies/dead guys that you ordered. There is also a large recovery room adjacent, a place for the recovering to lie in a bit more comfort than the operating table. It also frees up the table for others who might be wounded in the mean time. At the very least it's a spillover area for supplies.
Lab - A holdover from the ship's terraforming past, the lab has fallen into disuse over the past years, however, that is sure to change as Esmay takes it over.
Brig - The "4"s on the map indicate the cells of the brig. Occasionally the ship might end up with a prisoner or more likely the Peerless as a merc ship will collect a live bounty and toss him in here. Three of the rooms are basic cells like any prison. The fourth is slightly larger but used as an interrogation room of sorts for less cooperative prisoners. The brig can also serve as a place to toss mutinous crew members, stowaways, or the sick that need to be quarantined.
Security - A small room that can be used to monitor the cell block next door. It's also a mini-armory for this deck.
Shuttle Equipment - Shuttles need loving too. Anything required for its upkeep and maintenance is tossed in here.
Shuttle - Useful for trips to the surface, an escape boat in the event of an emergency, or for some added firepower in a fight. We only have one shuttle so no one lives in it nor is it ever going to be rented out.
Deck 3 Walk-through From fore to aft.
Under-Bridge - A narrow corridor running under the bridge eventually leading to a stairwell/ramp up to the bridge proper. Alongside this hallway are the twin MACs (Magnetic Accelerator Cannons) forming the second half of our primary armament.
Supply Closets - Same as Deck 2, these are for "emergency" supplies that you'll need to grab in a pinch to save your life.
Escape Pods - The lower section of the escape pods. If the ship is blowing up then get here ASAP.
Point Defense Guns - There is only one gun station on Deck 3 (the "7"). It covers forward and down.
Crew Quarters - More personal living quarters for the crew.
Lavatory - Bathroom for those down on Deck 3.
Armory - Most people have personal weapons and gear they keep in their quarters or on their person but all communal gear, specialty equipment, or general surplus weaponry an individual might have is stored here (if not in one of the emergency lockers for quick access). That includes weapons, ammo, body armor, grenades, tactical rigs, etc.
The armory is well stocked with weapons racks and weapon lockers lining the room. Shelves and crates of ammo, magazines, equipment, and the like fill out the rest of the area.
Machine Shop - Desmond's domain, the machine shop abuts the armory and is where the smith performs his miracles. Here weapons are customized and sometimes even manufactured from scrap. There are reloading operations as well, and if need be the shop can be used to fabricate parts for the ship itself.
Engineering - The engineering sections continue on Deck 3 with ladders up to the engineering section above on Deck 2.
Elevators - Two elevators servicing all decks.
Common Room - The largest room on the ship. As the name implies, this room is open for all with the general purpose geared toward relaxation and entertainment. On the port side there is a small bar, pool table, and numerous vid screens for those looking for a louder experience. On the starboard side is a seating area and even a library section for those looking for something a little more quiet. In between is generally a place to sit and chat, browse the cortex on a personal terminal, etc.
Core - The domain of the mechanics and what powers the engines. Put another way, it's that big turn-y thing that makes the ship go.
Shuttle - The shuttle docks into here as well but is only accessible from up on Deck 2.
Deck 4 These most simple of the four!
Elevators - The same two wide freight elevators that service the other decks.
Cargo Bay - Comprising basically the entire deck. The area is naturally filled with whatever cargo we might be carrying. It is also a garage for the mules and anything else we might pick up along the way so they're stored here and also repaired/maintained here. The cargo bay is also the site of a shooting range, operational at all times except in the rare case when the Peerless needs to take on substantial cargo. Likewise, the bay also operates as a large open gym for all manner of exercise but for when circumstances require this area actually be filled with cargo.
Point Defense Guns - The final gun (the "7") is located here. It is mounted at the end of the bay and covers aft and down.
Black Area - No, this is not just nothingness. The large black sections are merely "inaccessible". By that I mean that some of it is internal workings of the ship but others are smuggler holes. Just because it's cramped and ugly doesn't mean you can't hide something back there.
What's not shown - When landing, the entire deck lowers down out of the rest of the ship to touch the surface.
Once lowered, the front wall lowers down into a ramp.
