0600 Hours, April 14th 2582 On board the Elysium
Sid had gotten up early as he did most morning. Earlier than usual this priticular morning. It was a big day for Sidney. He had a whole day of avoiding any mention of it being his birthday. Like every year was going to try and keep the crew to busy to make time to celebrate. Lucky for him they has stumbled across a group of Pirates two days prior scavenging a derelict ship.
Now Sidney has never been big on scavenging or dealing with pirates but he was desperate for some sort of distraction from the events Jeri was likely to have planned. That is why this morning needed to be so early. They were set to land at dead wood in about half an hour and if all went well the only person who would be up would be their pilot, Harvey. Sidney didn't know the man well he had only been with the ship for a few months now and was a pretty quiet type. Of course Pacifica was likely to be up as well. She like fun as much as the next person, so long as the next person didn't like fun. That must have been why the two of them got on so well.
Sidney stepped out of his room into the hall and walked down to the bridge to check on Harvey. "How we lookin Harvey?" Sid asked with a quick nod.
"On course and on schedule, cap." The man replied without looking away from the controls of the ship. It was enough for Sid. He turned and walked away this time creating down the hall as quietly as his legs could muster. The crew was hopefully still sleeping and would be till they landed. Once there they had the commandeered cargo to of load before the pirate caught sent of them.
They had laid pursuit for as long as they could before the Elysium had finally lost them. They didn't need to waste time for them to show up. Plus they had another job line up thanks to Pacifica. He crept past the last room and thought he was home free when he swung to door open to the galley. He knew right than he had failed to make it early enough when he smelled what had likely been hours worth of work on baked goods. "Jeri! I told you we didn't need any sort of fancy being made on about of me." Sidney said in an almost agitated voice. He never really got mad at Jeri despite his best efforts. She had become attached to him and stuck it out with him and the Elysium from the very beginig. She had grown on him too, she was that bright sunshine to gorram early in the morning, but he had learned to accept it.
He stepped in and found out she wasn't along. She had gone through all the ship and gotten everyone up. Even their passanger Tristim had joined for the unwelcome festivities. Pacifica was at her coffee pot, and let me make that real clear HER coffee pot.
"gorram it, shouldn't you all be sleeping, or fixin my ship, or he'll navigatin us to where we're supposed to be in thirty minutes. Sidney sighed at the crew being there. He debated walking back out and in fact turned to do so but Jeri and Kalli were a step ahead and had already made there way to him and were working to turn him around and shut the door good and tight.
"Weaknesses have a job to d..." Before he could finish he was interrupted.

Jeri hadn't even gone to sleep yet. She had taken a nice long nap after lunch the night before to prepare for this day with fervor. Sidney haaaaaaaaated her parties. Well, to be fair, Sidney hated any party that required him to be in focus. Or maybe it was all parties in general; she couldn't tell anymore. Either way there was no gorram way Jericho Montgomery would allow her crewmate; nay, her captain to not celebrate his birthday. Physically impossible, that. She toiled through the wee hours of the evening, humming to herself, singing to herself. She even tried to scoot one or two crewmates off to bed with a sweet little, "Off to bed you, we got a big day tomorrow!!" aasdf Whether they liked it or not they would all be bright eyed and bushy tailed for the Captains big day. But first she needed to get cooking. Literally. She spent her evening making pies and cakes, little boxes with customized cupcakes for each crewmate based on their past favorites. She didn't know anything about their passenger so she improvised a bit for his. Who didn't like cupcakes? Once the evening began to give way to dawn, or at least " space dawn" as she liked to call it, Jeri began cooking breakfast. Seeing as she didn't have any family in need of her wages she often kept them to buy special ingredients while they were in the black; far from freshness. She had particularly splurged for Sid's birthday. A three tiered cake said that much, but she had gone a bit fruit crazy. There were fresh fruits basically everywhere. Each displayed elegantly on it's own platter with some kind of dipping. She even went a bit overboard on her meats. Bacon, sausage, eggs, even fish thrown into numerous breakfast dishes for each member to choose from. Biscuits... Biscuits, everywhere. Honestly she had gone way overboard this year. Sidney was probably going to kill her, but in her sleep deprived and overly chipper head the thought was far from mind. She checked her clock, panicking because she knew Sidney would definitely try to be awake before she was. He did it every year. And every year he seemed surprised to see her smiling face. How he hadn't figured out the fact that she just didn't sleep evaded her, you'd think he'd catch on. She had a short period of time to run around to each cabin and wake the sleeping crew members. "Up! Up!!! UUUUUUUUUP! It's the Captains birthday! Up ya lazy bones." She chirped in her sing song voice, shaking one or two awake. She managed to get everyone into the galley, fluffing each of their cheeks with her mittens to try and wake them up. "Come on now, sug, the early bird gets the worm." Jeri chimed sweetly, running to the oven to remove yet another cake. She hit the intercom to control; "Don you tell'em Harvey. I make yer mornin' coffee."Just as she set it atop the last open space near her she heart Sidney's angry tone. She grinned to herself, removing her oven mitts and holding them in front of her apron in defense. "Jus' cause you said it don't mean I believe it." She barked back at him before he seemed to notice the rest of the crew as well. She thought his head was going to pop right off his shoulders. Oh Sid. She rolled her eyes as he went on to scold them all, approaching him oven mitt drawn to bat him right on the nose. "Oh hush you. You let these folk celebrate your miserable birthday and eat my gorram cook'n." She held a plate of bacon beneath his nose and spun it just slightly. "You know ya want to!"

Tari had been napping when the much too upbeat woman known as Jeri came knocking so early in the morning. Not that it was a big deal to Tari since she only slept a little at a time anyway. The cheery demeanor was another story, not that she didn't enjoy the first mate's company..Tari was just not the cheery type.
A quick face wash and a change of clothing she was out and about on the ship, doing whatever orders Jeri gave her to help in the festivities of the day. It was Sidney's birthday, he hated the celebration but it was pointless for him to fight it. Plus Sid was the one person on the ship she had a close connection to, not romantic mind you..they just had a sort of understanding about one another perhaps. He got through to her when she was about to abandon the ship for good, which was a good decision. Just not an easy one for Tari, since she'd never been one to stay in the same place for long. She had even gotten him a gift.
Before Sidney's arrival Tari had leaned herself up against the wall and nodded off for a few minutes. Hearing the captain's voice she blinked her eyes open, she grinned at the exchange between him and Jeri. It was a humorous dynamic. "Morning boss man...birthday boss man. You know there's no point in fighting her, none of us ever win when it comes to birthdays." He'd still fight, because that was his way - but he wouldn't win and everyone knew it, even him.

With just under two months of being a paid passenger aboard Elysium, Tris had assumed that he was exempt from any early morning musters. Jericho, it seemed, had other ideas. The gambler was roused from his alcohol induced slumber by a cheery drawl and a flurry of bats from the oven mitts wielded by the ships cook/first mate.
"Trissyyyyyy! Get up get up get up!"
She was rewarded for her trouble with a groan as he rolled over and pulled the sheets up over his head. It was too damned early and he was just a little too hungover to try and get out of bed now. Jeri didn't share his sentiment. He felt the full force of the small girl wallop him in head with her mitts.
"GET UP YA VARMINT!"
With another groan, he slowly pulled back the covers and sat up, squinting at the lights she had turned on.
"Gorramit, I'm up."
He slowly swung his feet over onto the cold floor and sat bare chested at the edge of the bed. Without looking up, he pointed in the general direction of where he kept his clothes.
"Toss me a shirt, if you don't mind."
The only answer he got was a cotton shirt whapping him in the face from across the room. He mumbled a muffled thank you, pulled the garment over his head, and shuffled to the galley.
He was pouring himself a cup of coffee when Sidney walked into the galley and began berating Jericho for making so much fuss about his birthday. Tris just grinned into his mug. He hadn't known Sid very long, but he knew he was kind of a softie at heart, especially where Jeri was concerned. These folk were different, but they were alright.

Pacifica was never the cheerful type. Actually she wasn't the emotion type at all. Most of the crew saw her as stone cold most all of the time. Birthdays were one of the few times she actually enjoyed. Last night was a late night for her she was on the bridge reading through Kalli's parts request for ship repairs so she could go through the ship expenses for the captian. Then making sure their course was perfectly plotted for Deadwood and of course making sure they were set for their next job as soon as they got there.
She crashed in her room at her small desk instead of making it to the bed. A small act she would reget all day. When the young cook came in Pacifica sprung up in her chair. Every inch of her back felt like her injuries were new. A grimes crossed her face as she tried to get up before the joyous cook could make a big fuss about waking her. Jericho had always woke Pacifica up first. She knew she took longer than most to get ready.
"Thanks Jericho, I'll see you out there soon." She said cutting the young lady off before she got started on rambling about the whole day. Once the room was cleared out Pacifica got herself changed and cleaned herself up. Normally a shower would be first thing in the list for her but today she just wasn't ready to spend that much time standing just yet.
She stepped out of her room and slowly and purposefully walked to the mess hall. By the time she had readied herself and got out there everyone else had already been woke and arrived. With out a word she went straight for the coffee pot and got herself a large cup. The morning didn't really start till then. Then she took a seat at the table and waited for the Captains arrival.
A small smile crossed her face when he entered and began his rant. After it calmed and he made his attempt to depart Pacifica finally spoke up. "No sense running from it Captian. She isn't going to let you out of it. Have a seat and enjoy the festivities." She was antagonizing him just a little with what she said. Trying maybe a little to see if she could get him going agiain.

Kalli was on the perfect white Sands beach with crystal clear turquoise water broke up only by the most ideal white capped surfing waves. She have swam and surfed and enjoyed it for hours and hours. Now she was just laying down relaxing on her towel waiting for her next round of drinks. It couldn't have been more perfect. The beach side bartender approached her and Kalli smiled at the idea she didn't need to move.
Right before Kalli could tell her what she wanted to drink the bartender began to speak. "Wake up sleepy head." Kalli looked at her puzzled "Get up, get up you ol' bag a bones."
The dream faded away as she felt herself being rocked back and forth. Kalli groaned and rolled over. "It'd to early to be awake." The saying persisted until she opened an eye, just one.
"Now ya ain't gonna sleep through the caps birthday. Now on my watch." Jeri said standing over her. Kalli quickly pulled the covers up to make sure she was fully covered in front of her crew mate. Her face turned red, she had planned to be up before Jeri arrived and all ready to go.
I'll be up and ready right away I promise." She said with a hint of embarrassment in her voice. Once Jeri left the room to rouse the next crew me never she tossed on some cloths and raced to the galley where Jeri, tari and their passanger had already made it to.
"Sorry I'm late." She explained as she went right to it helping Jeri get ready for the mornings events. It wasn't but a minute or two later the captain was there and in his usual joyful mood. When he went to leave she made a sprint to the door while Jeri stopped him from walking off. Kalli shut the door and returned to the group.
"Morning Sid. Happy birthday." She said as she pulled out a chair for him to sit down in and patted it while Jeri presented him with food.

Sid's glare crossed the room eyeing everyone in the group. They had done it once again. A few of them were early risers but he knew this was earlier than most. Sidney let out a loud prolonged sigh. He grabbed the plate from Jeri and gave a half hearted smile. "Fine, we eat." He said as he looked down at his watch. "We have fifteen minutes till I expect everyone to be getting ready to land. We have cargo to drop off and I don't want it on my ship any longer than we have to."
The goods they had picked up from the pirates was a mix of everything a settler would need and wouldn't be to hard to get rid of here on Deadwood. It would bring them a great fortune but it would pay the bills for a while and right now that is what they needed. The ship was nearly seventy nine years old and that meant a constant cost to keep it running and fixed up. They had been slowly upgrading it when they could.
Sidney took the seat Kalli had pulled out for him at the head of the table and waited for the others. "Well what are.you waiting for let's get this over with." He exclaimed as the others looked on.
He knew Jeri would have the whole deal she always did. Cake, pie, cupcakes and a family meal. Sid hated crowds but meals were his acception. Even the passangers on the ship would sit down for meals with the crew. They were a family even if only because they were on the ship together. He nodded to Jeri as she began the festivities. It was these moments that he felt like he was at home, a good home.

Jericho crept into Pacifica's room first, turning the lights on dim because she did not want to royally piss her off. She liked living, thanks. "Oooooooh Pacifica! It's tahme to wake up, sug. It's the caps big day and everyone's gonna meet him in the Galley!" She gently nudged Pacifica's shoulder taking in a breath to continue on about their day plans. But Pacifica cut her short, as she often did. Not that Jeri blamed her, she certainly did have a tendency to let her mouth run off on it's own. Especially when nervous or angry. Or intoxicated. She nodded to her crewmate, holding her tongue. She trusted Pacifica would get ready for the occasion and make her way to her personal pot of coffee as per the usual. Her brew was a special blend that Jeri used only for her. Mostly because you never knew when the original would be pranked. "See ya in a bit, hun."
And as I said before, she likes living.
Next was Tari, whom she knew wouldn't be any hassle. Most people didn't appreciate Jeri's cheery nature, actually she wasn't sure anyone did, but Tari never seemed to mind. She stood behind the door a moment, looking around the hallway just in case Sid had pulled a fast one on her. She then knocked very lightly, poking her small head in. "Tari. Taaaaari m'dear. Tahme to shake and bake." She called in a soft voice. Her eyes squinted through the dark before she was certain she could see Tari stir. "Alright, love, just get yer hiney to the Galley for cake!" She grinned to herself, closing the door quietly before moving onto her next crewmate.
"Kaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaalli" Jeri chimed happily, bouncing into Kalli's room with the energy of a four year old on crack. "ITS SIDS BIRTHDAAAAY!!" She shook the mechanic with a soft squeeze. "C'mon c'mon c'mooooon, wake up sleepy head!" She pleaded, rocking her back and fourth before she finally stirred. She still had to wake their passenger, Tris. And from past experience that would take a cool minute. So it was best to get the sweet girls attention first. "Get up, get up you ol' bag a bones. Now ya ain't gonna sleep through the caps birthday. Not on my watch." She barked as sternly as her pale face could be. Kalli finally replied to her frantic, sleep deprived, pleas and Jeri was satisfied.
Now was the real work. Tris.
She stopped at the passengers door and waited for a moment. If she were lucky he'd be slobberin drunk, but still awake. But she was pretty sure she had heard a snore. Bristling her back she marched into the room, flipping the lights on fullblast and practically attacking their charge. "Trissyyyyyy! Get up get up get up!" She hollered at the back of his head, giving him a shake. Nothing. She took a deep breath, pulling her mittens out of her apron and walloping him repeatedly on the head before fluffing his cheeks with them as well. "GET UP YA VARMINT!" She barked before he finally seemed to liven up. She grinned to herself, satisfied that she had done this in record time until he sat up and she was faced with his bare chest. Her face flushed and she covered her eyes as if he were bare assed. Mama ain't raised no perv. "You best not be nude." She squeaked, tossing the first shirt she happened on. A nice shade of green. "Now... hurry it up, breakfast is gett'n cold!" She snapped, making a B-line for the door and bumping the frame as she went.
"OW." She muttered, slamming the door behind her. Jeri stashed her mittens back in her apron and quickly made her way to the galley where helping hands were already waiting. Once everyone had arrived the real fun began. Jeri beamed brightly as most of the crew went ahead and took her side of things. They knew it was pointless to fight it. Jeri would celebrate all by herself if she truly had to. And then stash a surprise sweet in their dorm room. Like a cake ninja.
15 minutes. This cranky old man. Jeri straightened her back and batted him as he sat down at her table before sitting next to him. "Fifteen minutes for mah breakfast? You gone waste all meh birthday cookin!?" She pouted, hiding her face as if she were crying and mock sobbed at her makeshift family. "And Ah worked sooooo hard."

((Sorry guys! I was completely convinced that Tris was next not me! Kick me next time lol <3 ))
Everyone was finally there, Sidney was as grumbly as Tari had expected. As he was every year on his birthday because Jeri made it into a party every year. You couldn't escape her plans when it came to birthdays or special events. If you were sick or injured she'd just relocate it to your room or the sick bay...if you were dead, well she'd give you a good chastizing before she made adjustments and still celebrated Tari was sure.
Tari watched as Sid gave in, though he tried to not show it. She was sure he enjoyed it at least a little, who could actually be mad at Jeri? Tari smirked as she pushed herself from the wall to grab her own plate and put some of the chef's fine offerings onto it before sitting down to eat. "So captain, what's your birthday wish this year? Other than to stop having birthdays.' Tari chuckled softly, 'Don't worry Jeri, none of your fine cooking will go to waste - never does. Just wait and see how huffy he gets when it's time for presents." She sent Sidney a big grin, knowing how he loathed this day. It wasn't like Tari enjoyed it when her own birthday came around of course - but this wasn't her birthday so she could tease if she wanted. Knowing full well it would be returned double next March when it was her turn all over again.

The captains birthday was a spectacular to behold, more than that of any other. He moaned and denied the need for it like no other. He would persist to the end that they needed to end it, but it was all a game. In the end the captain would go through with it all and deep down he enjoyed it, Pacifica was sure of that. Jericho gave him the face tears and she could see him giving in. The relationship between those two was strong. Probably strong than any other on the ship.
Pacifica saw Jericho very much the same way, almost as if she were her own child to care for. They were only 8 years apart, making Jericho closer to her age than the captain but their life experiences were world's apart. Jericho had seen the horrors of war but not first hand like Pacifica had. She was still a child in her eyes in many ways.
Tari interrupted the display of hidden affection from Sidney wher she asked of his birthday wish. Tari had cut him off from wishing it to end. Pacifica let out a small laugh before cutting herself out. "Well Captain what will it be presents or cake first?" She asked of him between sips of her coffee. She knew he would be oh so happy about either of them.
She watched as Kalli prepared to bring the cake over to him on Jericho's signal. The two of them were partners in crime when it came to giving the captian hell. Pacifica reached in to her pocket and placed her hand on a small gift she had gotten for the captain. She wouldn't show it but she too was excited about the whole ordeal even if only a little.

Kalli laughed at the exchanges between Sidney and the rest of the crew. She could stop herself from laughing. For her this was her first time seeing the Sidney's birthday. The man was such a hard old man that never wanted to be the center of attention but in this moment that's exactly what it was. Kalli was never the best at it to but for her it was a lack of confidence.
She envied how confident Sidney was. The man know exactly what he wanted and how to get it all the time. Maybe someday it would rub off on her in some way. She was happy for now though seeing him squirm from the attention, it made him seem more human to her.
Her hands rapiped on the counter beside the cake waiting to bring it over to him. She grabbed the plate when Pacifica mentioned the cake. She was ready to go. "Come on sid, just enjoy it. You don't have a choice." She squeaked in excitement. She began to bounce in place waiting for the go to bring the cake over.

Sidney plan to cut the days activities were quickly cut short by Jeri. Not unexpected even though he had hoped he had a chance to turn the attention off himself. Sidney sighed at Jeri's display to coerce him in to allowing the morning to continue as she planned. "No need for that Jeri, we can make some more time for it." He said caving to her demands. Jeri of everyone on the crew was the person who had the most pull with Sidney. She had been with him for the longest. From the very beginning actually. Harper, her uncle had served in the war with Sidney and Sidney owed his life to the man. When Harper had contacted Sidney and asked him to take her on to his ship and look after her he didn't hesitate at all. She was cheery, young and innocent, the complete opposite of of Sidney but they had grown close. He looked at her as she were his own daughter. He looked after her all the time and she did the same with him. If there was ever anyone who could get him to give in it was her.
The rest of the crew began to chime in and persist as well coming to Jeri's add in convincing Sid, a fight that had all but ended the second Jeri had spoke. Sidney's gaze went to Tari as he answered her question. "A quick departure from Deadwood, but more importantly a quick landing so we can get started and past this little event." He was being somewhat serious at the same time a bit playful. My god was he turning in to one of them, a cheery person? It was probably just because it was Tari. She was sarcastic herself but Sid trusted her. Thats right a thief who had hid who she was from him for a good while before it came to light. They all had history they hid. Sidney had his as well. Tari knew more of it that most people, surely more than anyone else on the crew. Sid was far from the sharing type but when there was something he felt he needed to share Tari was likely the first to know.
Sidney pulled his plate of food in front of him and looked around at the rest of the crew as Pacifica was the next to add her comments about what to start with. Like it really mattered it seemed Kalli had already decided. Sidney simply nodded his head to the side toward Kalli and her hovering over the Cake to signal to Pacifica the cake. Pacifica was another one of his longer term crew and the only one who had actually server in the war like he had. He respected her greatly. The woman had been through hell and was wounded to a point that most would have never stood a chance of surviving, but here she was. She had not only survived but thrived after what happened. She had fought to stay in the service and make it to the end of the war as a soldier. As Sidneys operations officer on the ship she was he constant intel when they were on the ground on a job. He couldn't have asked for a more professional person for the job.
"It looks like Kalli is ready for the Cake, bring it over. Not sure I really need any presents." He said the last part knowing that there was no way they wouldn't skip presents. "I had really hoped for some ear plugs." Was that a joke? I guess it was, a poor one, but one non-the-less. Sidney looked over to Kalli a she twitched and bounced around ready to bring the cake. She had been newer to the crew so her and Sidney hadn't gotten to know each other as well as the others but she was quiet the mechanic. Sidney hated trying to figure out the inner working of the ship and several mechanics had come and gone with the tense relationship they had with Sid. Kalli seemed to love to talk about the ship and its parts but she was empathetic enough to figure out Sidney wanted her to treat him like he was an idiot when it came to the ship repairs. All he needed to know was something broke and we can fix it or not.
Sidney seemed content as he thought about his crew around him. Harvey was missing from that group but only till they land. Harvey had been on the ship for a few years. I chubby fellow and closest to Sidney's age. He was a loud fella but not much trouble to have around. The last person, who Sidney had grown to enjoy having because he helped even the male to female odds was their passenger Tris. A bit of a reckless person with his drinking and gambling. Originally he was only on for a ride to Santo but he continued along with them on every stop and pays to have a room on board. Sidney wasn't sure why the man was just towing along but he assumed he was searching for something or maybe just the right place. HE had proven himself helpful from time to time.

Jeri beamed a bright set of pearly whites as Sid caved into giving them more time to celebrate. He always did. Sid would give her a moon if she really asked for one. He'd grumble and gripe about it the entire way, but it would get done. She had been positively horrified when Harper had introduced them. He was a giant to her, at such a young age, and so gloomy! Though it didn't seem to take long for them to warm up to one another, possibly because her Uncle Harper was the same way. A bi-product of the horrors he had seen in war and finding his family slaughtered. So in time Jeri simply accepted that perhaps Sid was just as broken as Harper. She sought to earn her keep, taking on the kitchen as she had at home. And in time she simply grew to love the old grumpy Captain. There were plenty of times that they were simply two different people in the same room. Jeri humming while she did her little projects while Sid sat across the room doing his own Captainy things. It was harmonious, actually. Jeri rolled her eyes as Sid talked of their mission. What a waste of a birthday wish. "That ain't somethin Ah can buy you!" She teased, as per the usual. Buying for Sidney was Hell for Jeri. She made it a point to always get something useful. This time she thought she might have outdone herself, but as years ticked on and Sidney kept fighting the good fight; as it were, she worried more and more. Jeri began piling food onto her plate, famished from hours of long cooking. Though she knew she'd be full in no time due to all the " tasting" that needed to be done while preparing so much food. She grinned as Kalli seemed out of herself to get the cake on the table. Which Jeri was all for. She spent quite a bit of time on this years cake. She didn't hide her surprise to hear what sounded like a joke fall out of his mouth. Jeri let her jaw drop, over exaggerating a bit. "Holy Cheese Ravioli. Did yew just make'a joke?!?" She teased, poking Sid in the arm with her tiny finger. "Ah didn't know you had it in you!" Jeri giggled, as she took a bite of bacon; though her eyes were solely for her beautiful cake. "Then you got presents to open! So Kalli lets fire'er up!!" she said grinning form ear to ear, bacon hanging from her lips.
