Peerless has engineering sections on both decks 2 and 3 running along both sides of the ship. These areas contain many of the smaller systems that make the ship work (e.g. gravity dampeners, air filtration, heating systems, etc.) but most obviously connect to the four massive engines of the Peerless. The Core provides the basic power as well as the fusion power, but it is the engines that actually make the ship go. The engines function as basic planetary jet engines just burning H2 and O2 to create thrust but also serve to channel the pulses from the Core in inter-planetary flight. In this way they are hybrid engines performing both duties.
Engineering is "unfinished" and very industrial looking as you would likely expect. Some areas between decks 2 and 3 have no ceiling but are open in a two-story fashion. Most other places the ceiling/floor is merely grating. You might expect certain areas to be darker and dirtier than the rest of the ship. Maybe there is some cool sci-fi harmless steam coming out of a pipe or something.
