Alright. You may remember this topic from eight months ago. The basic setup is still the same.
Episode 3 will have its climax on Sweethome, the fourth moon of Elphame, a gas giant in the Georgia system. The Peerless has recently picked up Corvey from our mission on Santo. We were just at Dukkha on our way from White Sun to Georgia. On this trip, Corvey gave up the info about the Sweethome operation and we also picked up Achilles to aid in future interrogations/kill him off.
The operation is as follows. Marcus Lee, a senior officer of the massive Cobalt PMC... the guy our entire plot is about hunting... has established a small compound on the moon. As is his style, Lee is double dealing in his position. He is taking high end military grade equipment from the Alliance (because Cobalt and the Alliance are tight) and secreting it to this base. Once here, he then sells the high end goods to various dissidents, primarily anti-Alliance groups including straight up terrorists. Our purpose coming here is to #1 document the base as evidence of Lee's actions in order to alienate him from his bosses, #2 to kill a bunch of Lee loyalists, blow shit up, and have a good time, and #3 maybe grab some choice items for ourselves.
The Alliance force on Sweethome is of company strength, well over 100 strong. Their compound is relatively new and an assortment of buildings. The compound itself is surrounded by wire rather than any sort of wall with a handful of areas potentially mined. Various points along the perimeter have fighting positions dug (trenches and sandbags). There is also a watchtower, rather flimsy and easy for a minigun with under-slung grenade launcher to take out but it's there. Inside the compound are two or three small concrete bunkers, about a half dozen large warehouses (thin tin roofs and walls over substantial steel skeletal frames), and tarped areas are home to the various pieces of "merchandise" ranging from guns and ammo to body armor and tanks. Finally there are a bunch of tents for the PMC personnel: living quarters, a mess tent, a command tent, etc.
As I've already explained to Lars, Sweethome is pretty much the Wyoming of the 'Verse. It's population density is about 3/km^2 and we're in one of the least populated parts of the planet. It's total land area is about the size of Mexico with 1/20th the population. The area of the Cobalt compound is semi-arid. That means it's pretty flat, dry yet not dessert, and few trees i.e. there are pretty much open approaches to the compound. The best cover you'll find is maybe a little dip in the terrain or a nice big clump of brush.
Now that the scene has been set, what's the plan? Simple. The plan is that the IC plan goes out the window immediately. If you'll recall from last time, Sink's character was going to join our ship in this thread by crash landing nearby. Sink is somewhat MIA at the moment so we're looking for replacements (discussed at the end). Whatever happens there, while we're watching the base and planning our assault, a ship crashes nearby surprising us as much as it surprises Cobalt. They send out a team of their best to go investigate the crash site. Now, this is an important base but it's not THAT important so most of the mercs here aren't what you'd call the "A Team" and any that are would be going out to check out the ship.
We decide to capitalize on this distraction. While all the mercs are looking in the other direction and their best shooters are preoccupied, we rush in from the other side and try to get in close before they even know we're there. We come by air with the dropship ferrying half the team and by land with the various mules carrying the other half. Once we get inside the base, everyone can go wild. 100+ bad guys means there are plenty of opportunities to do the crazy action hero things you always wanted to write about. Eventually we win, take pictures and stuff, take some cool toys, and then nuke the site from orbit.
Meanwhile... Lars has created a redneck character to join our ship. Said redneck lives next door to this base (a few miles out is next door). He doesn't like the Cobalt mercs and has actually had some altercations with them before. Then, this random ass ship falls from the sky and lands on his gorram farm! The mercs then come swarming out to check it out. They start shooting at the survivors of the crash so Cletus does the only logical thing. He grabs his rifle and starts picking off Cobalt's finest while they're distracted. After that's done, he sees the main base is under attack. Figuring he has nothing better to do, he hikes on down and joins the fight. Once the dust settles, we realize there is this extra redneck in our group. He killed a bunch of mercs and his life kind of sucks now so he joins up to go kill more Cobalt dudes.
Now, back to the ship crash. We have four options as I see it.
Option 1) It's sink's ship. Her old gang fell apart and there was some kind of sabotage to the ship causing it to go down. Sink barely survives, gets rescued by Cletus, then joins us. We'd need to wait for Sink to show up but that's the original plan... kind of.
Option 2) We sub Sam in for Sink's pilot. Same basic thing with some story about why Sam is on a crashing ship. This, however, requires Edi to have two Peerless characters which she's not wild about.
Option 3) Who gives a shit who's on the ship. Random ass ship crash lands. They either all die in the crash/ensuing gun fight or some survive and we go our separate ways once it's done. It's the distraction that Gotham needs, not the one it deserves.
Option 4) Number is a stowaway on the ship, escaping from her project. She has that pseudo-future seeing ability which leads her to believe taking over and crashing the ship is a good idea. What crew members survive the crash all get killed by mercs as they swarm. Then, while Cletus starts picking mercs off, Number joins the fight. We see how much of a fighting badass she is and offer her at least a ride out of there.
Team One - Peerless
Team Two - Ground
Team Three - Dropship
Team Four - Not recruited yet
Unassigned
So, anyone's thoughts on the overall mission?
Thoughts on the Cletus recruitment?
Thoughts on the ship crashing options?
Finally, and the one you are required to answer, in the attack do you want to go with the ground team or the dropship team?
