GENERAL APPEARANCE
Lasky keeps himself as clean and well-groomed as
circumstances allow, placing importance on first
impressions and how he presents himself to others.
Indeed, the handsome young man dislikes getting
dirty or disheveled, but at the same time tends to
neglect showing the the same sort of consideration
to his living-quarters or even his work-space. Things
start out neat and organized, and then he gets busy
on a project and, well... Asher tends to keep towards
the edges of a room if possible (he dislikes being in
the middle or "in the fray" of locations or events), and
is often somewhat hunched or slouched whether
sitting or standing. When walking he usually pulls his
shoulders inwards and exudes a hurried pace, due to
his proclivity for quickly dodging through crowds and
around obstacles - a habit from his courier days.
CLOTHING STYLE
Lasky wears a fair mix and/or range of styles but is most
usually found in sporty or paramilitary types of apparel
such as cargo fatigues and the like. Ash also sometimes
breaks out some traditional Aesiryn dress, the design of
which features clean lines and simple pieces arranged
in the the following fashion: wraps or tunics accentuated
by small shoulder-capes, shawls, and/or form-fitting
vests or jackets that are belted at the waist, baldrics or
sashes across the hips or torso, thick loose-fitting trousers
or breeches sometimes accompanied by belt-spats (sort
of like a partial kilt but more akin to spatterdashes on
footwear), and supple, leathery boots that act as shin
guards and often have spats fastened over them.
Whatever Asher is wearing, you can be sure it'll be
reasonably durable material and cover him practically
head to toe, as he is more acclimated to dealing with
colder temperatures. He also prefers to dress in dark
and/or more subtle shades, eschewing most bright
colors or loud patterns.

OVERALL PERSONALITYLasky is an amiable soft-spoken young man, both highly intelligent and highly introverted. He enjoys socializing and meeting new people, but doing so tires him out before too long, and he isn't the best at initiating social interactions or dealing with large groups of people. Also, Asher tends to obsess a bit over details and getting things right, often displaying a bit of a one-track mind when in the middle of a project. On the other hand this means that he often notices things that others miss, and has an excellent work ethic.
Sensitive to the emotions and well-being of others, Lasky is empathic and polite, often keeping an eye out to discern the mood and intentions of those around him. If not given the same respect and courtesy, however, he can become critical and bitingly sarcastic. Indeed, Mister Ayers doesn't cope with negative emotions very well, which is why he tries to avoid misunderstandings and confrontations to begin with. He's also got a helluva temper, and once provoked will sometimes remain bitter and hostile for days at a time.
Though not a braggart, the man does have a prideful streak and cares too much about what others think of him, disliking situations that could make him seem uninformed or awkward. As such, Lasky is very independent and loathes asking for help, which means he spends a fair amount of time researching things in an endeavor to sustain his self-sufficiency. (And dear lord how co-dependent people irritate him!)
Perhaps ironically, Lasky has a hard time saying "no" to people, even if he secretly feels under-qualified for the task at hand. This results in him being forced to rely on his intuitive abilities (which are pretty good actually), though he hates feeling pressured to do so and greatly prefers having the time to strategize.
Asher has a rather strong sense of right and wrong as well, valuing efficiency, honesty, and loyalty. Unfairness, inefficiency, prejudice, and injustice disgust and anger him - sometimes to the point of prompting rash action, even violence. Those who condone or carry out such acts are met with cold disdain from Lasky, and he holds no pity for those he counts as enemies. A lifetime of issues left unresolved, of bottling up unspoken words and feelings, has left young Ayers with a deep well of rage that he sometimes fights to control.

Asher and his sister Laura were born and raised in the sprawling valley-cradle city of Vale on the planet Aesir. Their father Alexander was a self-made businessman in the mining industry, and their mother Amanda was a teacher and dance instructor. Asher was an energetic child who got on well with others and enjoyed his schooling. He and Laura got on well too, with a normal amount of the usual bickering and sibling rivalry. As he got into the later years of grade school it had become clear that Asher's above-average acuity needed a more challenging curriculum to fully develop and thrive, and so the Ayers made the decision to put their son in a private school called Westridge Preparatory that offered exactly that. It was a costly endeavor, but the boy's parents wanted to provide their son the best education possible, and Alexander's business interests were doing well. Laura had likewise been enrolled in Westridge, for although she was two years younger she had shown signs of a keen mind as well and it made sense with the move.BACKSTORYWELL-WATERED ROOTS

Neither of the kids wanted to leave behind their childhood friends or the house they'd been living in. They had new friends soon enough however, and the move did improve the children's academic potentials greatly. Moving across town had other advantages too. The Ayers' new home was in a nicer and more secure neighborhood, which had been a concern because Vale had a fairly high amount of criminal activity, as large cities are wont to have. In fact, things as a whole for the Ayers family were progressing nicely. Asher's mother had been offered a seat on the city council, and his father had expanded his mining enterprise by acquiring a company called Veridine, enabling him to add the physical transport of goods to his company's logistics operations. Of course, this required the in-gathering and training of new personnel and such, which resulted in Alexander having to devote more and more time to his job. Over the years this would prove detrimental to the family, putting stress on the marriage and distancing Asher from his father in the long-run.
WINDS OF FATE
2569 - 2579
2569 - 2579
Shortly after Asher's thirteenth birthday he moved schools again, this time to join Agate Academy - a military boarding school. The Academy was stationed just outside the city of Agate up on the summit of a mountain in Whitetail Ridge of the same name (i.e. Agate), the valley of which housed the city of Vale. This time however, the reason for the change was much more dire. Asher's mother Amanda had been killed in a suspicious hit-and-run, and her husband's method of coping with it was to lock himself in his office at work and drink the pain away night after night. Believing himself incapable of raising two kids on his own, Alexander had made a rash decision to sign Asher up for Agate Academy.
In the Summer months before Asher was sent off to the military academy he spent a lot of time with Detective Luke Chambers, who had been assigned the task of investigating the suspect circumstances of Amanda Ayers' death. The boy was constantly hounding the Detective about developments of the case. He wanted answers; a reason, someone or something to blame. Chambers was professional but empathetic to Asher's plight, and a bond of respect and eventual friendship formed between them. In the end however, no suspects were taken into custody and the apparent attack on Amanda Ayers and her family remained a mystery (though political rivalry remained the most likely motive). This didn't change much for Alexander, who had already given up hope, but his children were greatly disturbed by these events. Asher became withdrawn and cold-shouldered, while Laura eventually became more and more rebellious and aggressive.
Soon enough, Asher was at Agate Academy, pouring himself into his studies and training as a means of escapism. Aloof and on-edge, teenage Asher became an unpopular lonewolf for a time. He was however making excellent marks and proving himself a quick study, particularly in the field of applied sciences. The physical training proved more difficult for him though, being as skinny as he was. One of the instructors even took to calling him "lanky-boy" but due to her accent Asher and several other trainees misinterpreted her words as "Lasky-boy", leading to a phase of him being called by this nickname during his first year at Academy. By his second year, young Ayers was starting to gain more acceptance from his peers and feel a sense of belonging. Unfortunately, another major shock to his system was just about to hit.
Now thirteen, Laura was set to join her fifteen year old brother at the Academy, as per her father's plans. Well this sparked Laura's biggest episode of rebellion yet. Instead of checking in with the transport that was to take her and a few others up to the summit, Asher's sister ran away with a couple of no-good older "friends" she'd fallen in with and disappeared. It hadn't taken long for Mr. Ayers and Academy staff to be notified of the girl's absence, but it was long enough. Try as they might, no one could locate Laura or her supposed friends. Detective Chambers volunteered when a full-fledged investigation by local law enforcement was to be launched, even using countless off-the-clock hours of his own time to uncover what had happened. The sex and/or drug-trade were highly suspected of being involved, and plenty of dirtbags were hauled in off the streets and interrogated. But overall, the case was going nowhere. Hanging over their heads was the well-know fact that after the first forty-eight hours the likelihood of ever finding her would drop by a heavy margin. The feeling of desperation was palpable. No one wanted a repeat of Amanda's case.
But that's exactly what happened.
Eventually, life carried on. In 2572 Asher finished his schooling at Agate Academy just as Aesir was joining the Red Pact, graduating at the age of eighteen in the top five percentile of his peers. Academia, discipline, military protocol, and an introduction to career skills. These are the things young Ayers came away with, and at the end of it all he was grateful and knew that he would miss the Academy and some of its instructors. The regimen, clear-cut expectations, and forward-focus had helped him regain a sense of purpose in his life. And he'd started dating a beautiful young woman named Claire Kessler, who would in time become his fiancé.
In the meantime Asher's father had moved his company's involvement in the mining industry almost completely to the distribution and transport of material goods, (whether raw or otherwise) not only all across Aesir, but to the neighboring worlds as well. At this point, that meant that the newly christened Veridian Industries LLC (the parent-company being Veridine) had one of the largest commercially owned and operated fleets on the planet, as possibly one of the most well-connected networks in the system. Financially and patriotically speaking, the formation of the LLC (limited-liability company) couldn't have come at a more opportune time. During the very next year the "War of Containment" broke out, and Aesir began marshaling its forces and resources to support the war-effort.
In collusion with the military, Veridian Industries had constructed a massive hangar-base and training facility called Skyfall Station near the Agate Academy. There the parent-company Veridine along with a contingent of military instructors and advisers would house, train, and furnish pilots and engineers, many of whom would go on to directly join the military, and all of whom were enrolled to serve as reservists as per the government contract.
Asher spent the next four years taking part in the Civilian Technical Corps program at Skyfall Station, receiving further training to become a technical engineer and earn his wings as a pilot. Of course this meant that Asher was now working for his father, with whom he shared an estranged relationship. As if by agreement, father and son mostly avoided each other, which suited Asher just fine (or so he told himself). Claire on the other hand had gone into the MediCorps, receiving her on-the-job training at Mercy Hospital down in Vale. It wouldn't be long however before the two young lovebirds moved in together, first in an apartment and then into a smallish house in Silverthorne, the mid-way point between Agate and Vale.
Not long after Asher's eighteenth birthday in 2575 he received his full pilot's certifications and license. (He had obtained his low altitude in-atmo permit at sixteen, which was common and indeed a necessity for many summit or valley-town Aesiryn residents in the extensive Whitetail mountain range, and others like it.) Consequently, he started running small shipments for the company as a courier in rotation with the maintenance and logistics duties he had been carrying out previously. In the winter of that same year, Asher met and became fast friends with a man named Nate Atkin, whom he was assigned to work with as a partner and co-pilot. The Containment War was really starting to go poorly for the Red Pact allies, and several fronts were in dire need of blockade runners to sneak in supplies like food, medical equipment, and of course munitions. The two worked well together, and though Atkins would move on to take up work elsewhere a few months later the two parted on good terms and kept in contact over the years.
The "Red Pact War" finally ended two years later in 2577. Aesir and her allies suffered the shame of defeat at the hands of Jiangyin and the Commonwealth of Nations. Subsequently, the Aesiryn governance withdrew their participation in the Red Sun Treaty. In fact, all of the neighboring worlds orbiting Himinbjorg enacted a collective withdrawal, instead forming an exclusive, loose defensive alliance called the Mesa Accords - with Aesir as the capital. Like many others, Asher was disillusioned by the aggressive course the Red Pact had chosen to follow, and frustrated by the pointless loss of life that it had resulted in. Thankfully for Alexander Ayers, Veridian Industries had made bank, and managed to remain relatively unscathed by the fighting. Soon enough the military's direct involvement in the operation of Skyfall Station and Veridian as a whole began to diminish.
Asher was twenty-one years of age when he finally finished all of his engineering certifications and became a bonafide Technical Specialist. This was also the year that he and Claire got engaged, which was of course a very happy time and huge cause for celebration. In light of these developments, young Ayers' career took a turn. Now doing less supply runs and courier work, Ash became more involved in the administration of the repairs and modifications made and done on the company's vehicles. He was also eventually brought in on the security and communications side of things, requiring him to familiarize himself with the software involved after having dealt more with the hardware up to that point. Two years later, twenty-three year old Asher became the Director of Logistics at Skyfall Station, working directly under his father Alexander and alongside his Uncle Marcus and cousin Ellie.
OPEN ROAD
2580 - 2582
2580 - 2582
The next two years would prove to be both an exciting and unbearably difficult time in Asher's life. A string of sophisticated thefts were perpetrated against Veridian Industries starting in the early part of 2580. As Director of Logistics and one of the best technicians in the company on-site, Asher was personally assigned to investigate these high-tech crimes and develop countermeasures to protect against future intrusions.
With some help from Detective Chambers, Asher was put in contact with a "Black Cap" informant called Jinn Shen. Ash hired Shen as a consultant and learned from him how to reverse engineer a hack, and thereby invent a means of protection against it. Two months went by before Asher was confident enough in his own hacking skills to feel certain that he'd created and set in motion a solid plan for restructuring Veridian's digital security. Shen was of course paid handsomely for his services, but even more handsome was the sum he gained when he signed a retainer agreement with Veridine after a brief conversation with Mr. Ayers.
Claire, who had attained her dream of becoming a practicing physician, suddenly began to fall ill. She and her fiancé would discover that she had a rare genetic disorder for which there were only experimental treatments available anywhere other than maybe the Core - treatments which were cost-heavy and in short supply. For the next two years Claire became weaker and weaker. She taught Asher all she could about medicine and how to care for her symptoms in the meantime, never giving up hope or her gentle disposition. Briefly, once they'd finally been able to start her on what was supposedly the proper medicine, Claire did seem to improve. But, at length Claire's sickness took her, and Asher's plans to marry the love of his life were never realized.
Having been on hiatus from work to spend every moment he had left with Claire, Asher again felt the need to bury himself (and his grief) in something to distract from the pain of it all. Finally, he decided he wanted to leave his homeworld. Maybe see the sights. Do something new. Start over.
That was three months ago. Since the funeral, Asher contacted his ol' buddy Nate Atkin, figuring it was about time they did some catching up. That led to talking about something that would keep him busy and enable him to see the 'Verse like he'd always wanted - come aboard the Peerless.
Asher, presenting himself as a mercenary pilot and technician called "Lasky", did exactly that.

ROLEPLAY SAMPLE
[Note: The following RP Sample no longer necessarily represents the canon timeline or events in the character's life. But it still works, yeah?]Lasky stirred the bowl of chili to better mix in the seasoning while peering out at the clouds beyond the confines of the terrace. The hangar overlooked the southeastern ridge of the fjord, and the first rays of sunlight were just beginning to peek out over the tops of the surrounding Whitetail Mountains. In about another hour the inlet would be aglow, the waters below shimmering like crystal against the pale star-filled horizon in the morning light.
On other worlds the whole spectacle would be over and done with in a matter of about two minutes on average, but near the northern pole of Aesir the light of the Red Phoenix glided across the sky rather slowly. Lasky had read that there were places on Earth-That-Was where similar phenomena had occurred, where the days were lengthened and the sunrises and sunsets hung around for upwards of ten minutes.
Either way, Lasky loved watching the sun rise and set, and found other phenomena seen frequently in his home region -like midnight suns and polar nights- both fascinating and breathtaking. Indeed, the young man never tired of such natural beauty - getting to experience it so often was one of the best things about being a pilot in fact. He wished Claire was there with him.
"You're up early," Marcus remarked, adding "...again," as he poured himself a hot cup o' joe and walked out onto the open terrace to join his nephew. Asher turned and gave a little wave, suddenly realizing his breakfast was beginning to get cold.
"Aren't you off today?" his Uncle inquired somewhat incredulously after a few sips.
"Yeah, but I'm gonna catch up on a few repairs today anyways. Plus, I didn't wanna miss this," the boy replied, nodding to the spectacle before them. Sunlight was pouring down the steep hillsides of the fjord just then, filtering in through a mass of wispy cirrus clouds. Marcus gave a faint harumph - he wasn't a morning person, and was disinclined to leave the comfort of his pillow any sooner than he absolutely had to. Still, he didn't turn and walk away either. A few more minutes passed by as the pair stood watching in silence until Marcus drained the last of his coffee.
"Well, I'd best get to it. Drop by my office later and we can go to Johann's tonight. Gotta reclaim my spot as the reigning 'Dartboard Champ' from a certain young upstart," he said with mock contempt.
Asher grinned. "Okay, sounds good. See you later!" he said with a smile as his Uncle retreated from the wind and brisk morning air. Once inside, Marcus poured himself another cup and turned to regard his brother's only heir.
The boy was so much like his mother. God rest her soul...
