The seventh planet of Blue Sun, Deadwood and its moons were the first terraformed worlds in the entire Blue Sun system, even before any worlds in the Kalidasa system. The Colony and Settlement Authority tested an experimental new process on the worlds which paved the way for the rapid expansion across the 'Verse in the following years. However, following the successful tests, Deadwood was ignored by the Authority and was not promptly organized for colonization. This led to the unusual case of private citizens travelling on their own to this distant world and laying claim to the newly formed planet themselves.
Except for a brief period under Alliance control following the Unification War, Deadwood has always been independent both of any foreign government as well as powerful corporate interests. Notably, Deadwood's moons Haven and New Omaha are not governed from Deadwood but are themselves independent and generally have coexisted on good terms (though outsiders have used Deadwood and New Omaha as staging points to try and infiltrate Haven).
Unlike prosperous little Haven, Deadwood lacks any significant resources of note. However, partially fueled by the nearby economic boom and partially inspired by a simple dearth in the Blue Sun system, Deadwood has developed a small industrial base. The planet has very rural areas, but the "cities" of Deadwood are factory hubs that help supply the outer region of Blue Sun with local goods spanning numerous fields but with a particular focus on mining equipment for nearby Haven.
