Beaumonde is the fifteenth planet of Kalidasa but the most populous of the entire system.  Beaumonde (or simply Beau) is the "gateway" of Kalidasa, a much smaller version of what Persephone is to the entire 'Verse.  A great deal of trade moving into and out of the system either changes hands on Beaumonde or merely passes through on their journey.  Beaumonde is also the most industrialized and urbanized world of the Kalidasa system.

Notably, despite its power, Beaumonde is independent in a system where worlds tend to flock to one super power or another.  Thus when talking about Kalidasa there are the big four: the Commonwealth, the Entente, the Empire, and Beaumonde.  Beau tries tends to take a neutral position though it is heavily tied to the Commonwealth.

Beaumonde was actually the last of the original core group of worlds terraformed in the Kalidasa system.  Despite starting a few years behind the others, Beaumonde has become the manufacturing and commerce hub of Kalidasa.  Unfortunately, heavy industry has taken a toll creating a heavy smog over cities and polluting both the soil and water.  Far from the numerous cities of Beaumonde and their negative environmental impacts farming communities can be found.  The capital city of New Dunsmuir is the rare exception where skies are clear and streets are clean, a showpiece of the planet, administrative and cultural hub, and a common tourist attraction as well.
