Jiagnyin is the most populous world outside of the White Sun system.  Including its moons, Jiangyin is home to 53% of the entire population of the Red Sun system.  However, despite this staggering population, Jiangyin is not very industrialized or urbanized but rather very rural.  Whereas many terraformed worlds have pockets of civilization here and there, Jiangyin is unique in that nearly the entire planet has been settled thus spreading its 2.5 billion inhabitants out evenly.  Farming and ranching are the most common professions on Jiangyin.

Despite Jiangyin not actively attempting to expand into commerce, industry, or even politics, the sheer numbers of the planet and the natural output of so many inhabitants has made Jiangyin a leading power in the system.  The natural strength of Jiangyin was used as a rallying cry in the formation of the Red Pact and the subsequent Red Pact War also known as the War of Containment against Jiangyin.  With the aid of New Melbourne and the Commonwealth, Jiangyin won that war and remains a strong and independent world.

With only a few small urban centers, Jiangyin's population thus is very rural.  Some of the more remote locations are home to people known as "hill folk".  In the hill areas, there is hardly any government, little education, and a great deal of superstition.
