BACKSTORYMac was born on Verbena, his father was a drunk who beat him and his mom. When he was ten years old he shot his father as he was assaulting his mother. The Sheriff ruled it self-defense, but his mother disowned him and threw him out. He was homeless for three years until Child Protective Services was called by a concerned citizen and he was placed in a foster home. His foster parents were no better than his birth parents, and he ran away after only three weeks.
He stowed away on the freighter Mangellan and the Captain took pity on him, giving him a job as a swabby. He stayed on the Mangellan until he was seventeen when he legally emanicipated himself and joined the Verbena Militia. He served for thirty-five years and three months, reaching the rank of Master Sergeant, before he was medically discharged after losing his hand in combat during the Red Pact War.
Physically and physchologically scarred by his experiences in combat he turned to the bottle, his genetic disposition towards alcholism finally winning out after a lifetime of sobriety. He began drifting listlessly through the black, taking odd jobs as they came (usually involving violence.)
