• For all her seriousness Kate likes having a joke around with her friends and having fun.

Fears -
• Being powerless
• Being disabled or injured critically in some way that she could never do her job.
• Dying slowly of an illness or disability.
• Being captured
• Having no control over her actions or her own destiny, she hates playing games unless it’s a word game.
• She hates being backed into a corner.
Secrets - Secretly she is a terrible liar. She can’t lie to save her life. However she has managed to omit various parts of the truth. She isn’t afraid of small spaces but she afraid of being locked up and confined. She will be perfectly happy wedged in a small corner of the engine room reading a book, but locked in a windowless room with no chance of escape would terrify her. The idea of having to kills someone also secretly terrifies her. She is a mechanic not a mercenary, she will defend herself but will do everything she can not to kill someone. She has secretly killed a few people in her life.
Strengths -
• Mechanic, fixing things, building things.
• Hunting: She is a very good shot with a bow and arrow or crossbow. She has a good eye
• Fighting: same as hunting. She was never formally trained and belongs to the scrappy but determined genera of fighters; she is adaptable to her surrounds more out of desperation than of practiced skill.
• Horseback Riding
• Persuasive, Seductive when she needs to be. More so Kate has a talent for being blunt.
• Explosives: she is fair at making explosives, but is probably more adept with disarming them than creating them. For her hunting, and the accuracy of her shot is much better than the inconspicuousness of the set of her traps or her explosives ever were. It is more of a curiosity and a fascination than anything else. Something she hopes to learn more of.
Weaknesses -
• Her feelings and emotions can get the better of her.
• She has a temper.
• She is squeamish around blood and healing mostly. The idea of having someone else’s life in her hands frightens her.
• She can be very stubborn.
• Sometimes she finds being surrounded by numerous people in a formal setting uncomfortable and she can feel slightly awkward and out of place even if she looks the part.
• She can be selfish, self-assured, and very independent.
Talents/Special Abilities -
• Mechanic: She is an exceptional mechanic, she can build things as well as fix them, though her talent shines most brightly when she makes something run smoothly with barely anything to work with.
• Singing and dancing, but mostly singing, sometimes in very formal setting dancing can make her more nervous than she already feels.
• Drawing
Aspirations - To find a place to truly call home. To be loved.
Overall Personality - Kate is a serious person. That is not to say she isn’t fun or funny. She has a quick, sharp sense of humor. Her biting witty sense of humor can often shock, slight, or offend others. Though she doesn’t make friends easily it is easy to like her, and find her wee devil-ness somehow endearing, alluring and attractive, or at least when she isn’t covered in grease stains and dirt which is pretty much all the time.
Kate is smart. She has a quick wit, and a sharp tongue. She can be a bit snarky and playful. Most of the time, she is down-to-business and means what she says, though she can knock one bad with the lads and have a good old time. She is honest, true and loyal to her friends. Kate is very strong, stubborn, persistent and determined. Often she will react first and ask questions later. She is very down-to-earth and easy going. There is a gentleness and a sweetness to her that seems to bleed through, even through her seriousness. There is a blinding genuineness to her, all her faults and flaws and strengths wrapped into one, she shows all of them in a multifaceted manifest of color.
She is fiercely independent. She has strong survival instinct due to her difficult past and though not a trained fighter belongs to the band of scrappy but resilient and utterly determined types. She is adaptable and very good at thinking creatively. Upon first impression, sometimes but not always, Kate can seem a bit hard and cold, a tad socially inept if you will most likely due to the emotional strain of her upbringing. She was always more concerned about feeding her family and staying alive than making friends. Though Kate can be tough and more than a little blunt she has a softer more vulnerable side that she has only shown to a select few, and she has a natural protective instinct to take care of those she loves and calls friend. Generally she is very logical except in times when her emotions get in the way.

Your History -
Kate was the first daughter of Joseph and Ella Matthews, born on Haven, a rim planet. They grew up in a very poor mining community where everyone had very little in the way of means. Her father Joseph was a miner and died when she was 11 in a mine explosion. After his death, Kate's mother went into a deep depression and was unable to take care of her children. From then on Kate had to fend for her sister Primrose “Prim” and her mother. Her father had taught her how to string a bow and hunt.
Kate hunted with what she could bring what extra she had to trade and barter to help feed her family. Once she turned 19 Kate realized that her skills as a mechanic (which she had learned from her father, he had always been good at fixing things, but around here there wasn’t much work other than mining) could be used elsewhere to make her family more money. She hopped the first ship that landed on their little rock the Triton, and became their second mechanic. She worked as an apprentice for two year, she also help steal and hunt & track. She learned how to make and rig explosives under the tutelage of an overzealous gun hand that really didn’t do much shooting but he was an expert with anything that went boom. The louder the better. She was always curious with the explosives, never became an expert but at least knew the basics, enough to know how to better disassemble such things carefully. By the time she turned 23 Kate and the merry band of pirates she ran with were making all sorts of criminal activity. It was thrilling but she wanted something better. When she was 24 she left the Triton in search of better work.
Truth is her boss, and the man she liked to think of as her partner betrayed her. Colin O’hannigain was a reckless, rather malicious man but he took care of his own, that is until he saw something worth more. Such was the case when it came to Kate. Colin sold her to a slave trader on Bernadette. Luckily after a few months of planning, and with the help of her good ol’ friend Seamus Connell (for a price of course) Kate got her escape, and made it to Paquin.
She wasn’t necessarily looking for more upstanding work but better pay and being a sole mechanic, or at the very least the 1st mechanic, and not getting marooned on some god forsaken planet or sold into slavery would be nice. She wanted a bit more stability in her life, to know that she truly belonged somewhere. Her sister Primrose was older now and working at one of the bakers bake home. This gave Kate a bit more freedom. She still would send money home, but took a bit of the burden off Kate to know that her family would be provided for and that they were safe. She settled down for a while on Paquin, trying to make a bit of money as a bartender at Mirage, a club & restaurant in the capital city of Divantra owned by Sian Atrea. Kate didn’t mind it so much but she belonged in the sky, fixing a ship, being in one place for too long made her restless. It was then that she found a new prospect in what would be her new home: the Fenrir run by the two Dempsey boys that captained her.

Roleplay Example -
Kate Matthews squirmed in Patrick and Ben’s hands, “Hey, whatcha think your doin’ guys, hello! Guys! Patrick, what is this about,” she asked the one with the shaved head, probably the only thing that set the two burly men apart. Each of them was massive with various tattoos littering their bodies but Ben had a mess of curly black hair. Patrick looked the part of a pirate, a short beard, an earring in one ear, one full tattooed sleeve the designs of which crawled up onto his neck.
“What is the meaning of this?!” she yelled as she was released and shoved forward, she fell onto her hands and knees in front of Colin who lounged in the plush maroon leather chair behind his desk smoking a cigar and smiling dangerously like a Cheshire cat. The entire Captain’s quarters was filled with dark wood, the walls lined with weapons, swords mostly.
Kate defiant rose from her position on the ground and brushed herself off. Her jaw was hard as she gazed at Colin, her grey eyes searching his black ones. They shined malevolently back at her. “What’s going on? I went into my room to find these two lugs removing all my stuff?” she demanded hitching a thumb back at Ben and Patrick. The latter one gave a low growl.
Colin let out a long puff of smoke that permeated the room. “They were going through your things because you will no longer be a part of our little establishment.”
“What, what do you mean?” she looked back at Ben and Patrick in confusion then back to the Captain, who began to speak again, “Colin don’t talk down to me as if I’m not a person.”
“Well frankly you’re not, or at least you won’t be in about three minutes,” he replied nonchalantly with a swish of his wrist and both Patrick and Ben took hold of her arms and dragged her from the room, while Colin joined them on ramp as they offloaded more cargo.
“This should be payment enough,” she could hear him say to a slimy looking man with greasy hair and a very nice suit that looked far too expensive for him. Kate was dragged off the ship and into the dirt of Bernadette. She was then shoved towards the man wearing the blue suit. He forcibly grabbed her chin and tilted her head left and right, “Yeah she looks alright,” he felt her arms, “She’s got at least some muscle on her, not much, but she’ll do, and a pretty face too.” Kate struggled to get free of the man in the blue suit and his men now holding her back, most likely from punching him or Colin in the face, either one was a tossup really.
“Good,” Colin replied, “We have an accord,” they shook on it.
“Nooo,” Kate screamed, in shock. Her Captain, the man she had trusted, had sold her into slavery. She kicked and screamed and fought as the two men hauled her off to the place she would call hades for the next few months which would feel like eternity.
