Ann Madelaine Lavenza
"Every time I reach out for something I want, I have to pull back because other people will suffer."
------------------------------------------------------
Full Name - Ann Madelaine Lavenza
Nicknames/Alias - Annie
Age - 32
Date of Birth - July 24
Gender - Female
Sexual Orientation - Heterosexual
Affiliation - Alliance
Occupation - Alliance officer
Play-By - Anna Paquin
Build - Slender, but you can spot her muscles if you look
Height & Weight - 5'5", 135 lbs.
Hair - Blonde and wavy. She wears it up a lot, so she doesn't remember exactly how long it is.
Eyes - Brown
Unique Features - There is a small gap between her front teeth.
Dressing Style - She usually wears simple, functional clothes, but on occasion she will splurge and wear something fancy.
Likes - Tangerines, the color white, being given free rein, piano music (though she doesn't play), knowing she has power
Dislikes - Being powerless, having to keep secrets, seeing her friends fight, what happened on Miranda, having secrets kept from her
Quirks/Habits - Ann always carries some source of light on her, even if it's just a match. She isn't afraid of the dark; she just likes having some way to light things up.
Fears - Being strangled
Secrets - Ann was very nearly engaged to a Browncoat, but she now denies being anything more than friends with him.
Strengths - Ann is driven and goes after what she wants, when she wants it. She is a good person and does what she can to stand up for those she thinks need it. She's also pretty decent around an engine, and though she couldn't fix one without proper supplies, she could probably keep it running until she hit the nearest planet.
Weaknesses - When she was younger, Ann was a bit of a pushover, and she still has elements of that; if someone else wants what she wants, she has to fight herself to keep from giving it up to them. She's a little hypocritical as well: much as she dislikes keeping secrets, she will do so if she thinks it's for the best. She is not very good at being commanded and will argue orders if she feels she has a right to.
Talents/Special Abilities - Ann is able to command people with ease. She's also a quick learner, which is how she picked up engineering (and has her eyes set on learning how to pilot as well). She also plays a good game of checkers.
Aspirations - Ann wants to make the Alliance what she feels it should have been from the start: something to help the worlds and make life better for everyone.
Overall Personality - In a word, Ann is tough. In several words, she is a fighter who feels that fighting only has one purpose: to protect. She is a little disillusioned with the Alliance but optimistic about herself and the future. She can be very stubborn but has learned to work around people rather than bull right through them. When she can, she likes to enjoy softer things in life, like fresh fruit and beautiful music.
Father - Ernest Lavenza, age 65, retired Alliance officer
Mother - Lydia Lavenza, age 66, professional chef
Siblings - Christopher Lavenza, age 26, doctor
Other Significant People - Victor Rubinstein, age 38 (if not deceased), Browncoat and nearly Ann's husband
Pets - Until she left home to become an officer, Ann had a tabby cat named Fitzgerald.
Your History - Ann grew up moving around from place to place. Her family tried to settle down after Christopher was born, but that lasted for about a month before they started off again. Lydia was the one moving the family with her wanderlust. Ernest drifted along after her, and Ann and Christopher could only follow. As such, Ann saw a lot of the 'Verse and made up her mind about places early. She realized that Alliance-friendly worlds tended to be nicer than Independent worlds and decided she would work for the Alliance so she could be part of what made the worlds so nice.
A few years after the Unification War started, when Ann was still training to be an officer, she met a man named Victor Rubinstein. He was a few years older than her and interesting to talk to, and she didn't realize until she was already in love that he was a Browncoat. When she found out, it explained quite a bit, such as why they only ever met near battles and why he was always so afraid of being seen with her. She realized that she would have to decide between Victor and the Alliance, and she chose the latter. She told Victor it would probably be best if they never saw each other again, and she never tried to find out if he survived the war. She still remembers him from time to time, sometimes even fondly, but she probably wouldn't try to start up their relationship if they found one another again.
When the details about Miranda were released, Ann was shocked. She knew the Alliance wasn't perfect -- after all, the Browncoats must have had a valid reason to fight -- but she had never imagined they would do something like that. She considered resigning before realizing that stepping away would make the Alliance lose a good person. She wasn't just a good fighter or a good officer, but a good person. Even if she no longer believed in the Alliance, she could believe in what it ought to stand for. On that day, she decided she would do whatever it took to make the Alliance something to look up to again.

Roleplay Example - Someone knocked on Ann's door, and she turned around. It was probably who she was expecting, but even so, it paid to be alert. "Come in," she called, taking a step forward. If it was one of her superiors, she wanted to look at attention.
The door swung open, and Micah stepped inside. She smiled with relief when she saw him and relaxed. Her hand went to her pocket and the engraved lighter nevertheless. He was a few minutes late, which was nearly unheard of for him.
"It's about time," she said. "What took you so long?" She shook her head before he could respond. "It hardly matters. Have you spoken to anyone else?"
It wasn't entirely a lost cause if he had; for all she knew, he had found someone else to help them rework the Alliance from within. They needed all the help they could get. The only problem was whether they could trust whoever he had found.
