Amir Elgyn
"Oh! That was bracing. They don't like it when you shoot at them. I worked that out myself."
------------------------------------------------------
Full Name -Amir Elgyn
Nicknames/Alias -Prefers to always be called by his last name, Elgyn. He will actually introduce himself as Elgyn. Very few who actually know him well will use his first name Amir. When he was a highly active thief his nickname was Sparrow
Age -39
Date of Birth - July 30
Gender - Male.
Sexual Orientation - heterosexual
Affiliation -Neutral
Occupation -Hired Gun
Play-By - Michael Wincott
Build -Tall/Muscular
Height & Weight - 6'1" 205lbs
Hair -short/black
Eyes -grey
Unique Features - A long scar around his neck, which is usually not seen due to his shemagh. He also has a bullet wound scar that is position close to his right shoulder, also from being on the job.
Dressing Style - Like most mercenaries, he's got combat boots and army pants, along with an undershirt and black jacket that can conceal weapons underneath. Elgyn also owns heavier combat gear, based on the mission. Regardless of the job, he will always have his signature black and white shemagh (http://paintballreviewguide.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/AAAAAvJPQ48AAAAAAFBoQA.jpg) around his neck. Sometimes, he will wear it to cover his face (http://fullclipusa.com/store/bmz_cache/9/91839dcb8ef9459b2222ca195db86b7b.image.240x240.jpg).
Other - I'd like to think that his voice is another unique characteristic for him. For Elgyn, I'd like his voice to be exactly like his play-by Michael Wincott. If you've never heard his voice or seen his movies, im sure a quick youtube click will illustrate it. Its a lower timber of a voice, and is distinguishably raspy/gravely.
Likes -Riddles, a combative challenge/combative match, Reading, meeting people/socializing, and elusive beautiful women.
Dislikes -The alliance, oppressive crime lords that oppress the poor, condescending/ignorant people, prison cells, and wasted liquor
Quirks/Habits -mutters/prays in latin under his breath before every mission or fight
Fears - Getting caught and having his past catch up to him
Secrets - Many, directly relating to his actions in the war or jobs he's done or crimes he's committed. Because he himself is mysterious, he would never actually admit to them.
Strengths - Socialite/smooth talker, extensive knowledge about many planets and its people, and deadeye shot, extremely observant
Weaknesses -when loyalties are formed, he can be suicidal/reckless to protect others, gambling addiction, and drinking problems
Talents/Special Abilities -expert pickpocket, expert thief, can be stealthy, and charming when need be.
Aspirations -in the short run, he will take any job he can, so long as he's always on the move. Ultimately though, he would like to somehow find a way of erasing his past and living off somewhere quiet when he is old.
Overall Personality -In the bottom section where more information is given about the character, I indicate that one of his specialties is his vast amount of knowledge and experience traveling. Despite being cunning/elusive and despite comparing him to Jack Sparrow, Elgyn is not as reckless or rude of a person. He is very easy going and oddly relaxed in almost any crisis situation. Despite being a hired gun he can and will develop loyalties to his friends. He will give advice when it is needed or asked, and will not be ignorant. Because of his calm demeanor and mysterious past, people will likely be cautious of him at first. After working with him for a bit, his objectivity and willingness to listen will in turn encourage people to open up to him.
This section is for you to tell us about the people in your life,
include whatever details you'd like - the more the better!
For example; full name, age(or age they died at), occupation, status(living or deceased), affiliation..etc
Father - Frank Elgyn (d)
Mother - Adira Hassan (d)
Siblings - n/a
Other Significant People - Because of his nomadic tendencies, Elgyn has met a lot of people. Some, have become friends and useful allies, while others have learned to hate him. Crime bosses, bounty hunters, and Alliance officials all have interest in hunting him down, while independents or neutrals keep him safe.
Pets - n/a
Your History - Amir Elgyn was born to Adira Hassan, a poor woman from a backwater moon along the outer rim. His father left both of them when he was a baby, and Adira was forced to raise him on her own. When he was just 8 years old a plague came through and killed his mother, while he was oddly immune to it. After losing both parents at such a young age, he grew accustomed to being an orphan and stealing to survive on the streets. Growing up he was thrown into orphanages but never was adopted. When he became a teenager and was too old to remain there, he moved out and began working, doing any odd jobs he could find.
He barely raised enough money to travel to a much larger planet, where he hoped there would be more opportunity to work. On Persephone, he somehow always found himself working in something crime related. He was a young man when the war broke out, and with nothing to loose, decided to enlist with the Browncoats and be a part of something bigger than himself.
His role was rather minor during the war, but he fought extensively and gained experience. He was a gunhand on a small medical skiff that frequently flew into combat zones to extract the wounded. Although he lacked medical training, he often was required to either guard the skiff outside when it landed or assigned to carry back soldiers. Since his role also included tending to the dead/wounded, his experience of loss and bloodshed was extensive and had a great emotional impact on him.
After the war he became depressed and drifted around for a while. After fighting for a couple of years during the war, his thirst for adventure and an adrenaline rush grew. He formulated a gang that all had code names relating to birds (his was Sparrow, and his comrades were Finch, Wren, Jay, and Swift). The gang became infamous around the 'verse, and for a few years successfully robbed from the Alliance or anyone that was rich. Because he always covered his face, only the gang members knew that Elgyn was Sparrow. The rest of the world know of Sparrow infamously, but not necessarily that it is Elgyn.
The group disbanded when one of the members, Wren, decided to sell out the rest of the group. On the run, he took what was left of his money and continued to travel to every planet and moon he could find, to avoid the feds. It was during this time he made crucial connections around the verse and developed his own mysterious/infamous reputation among criminal circles. It was only recently he decided it would be best to join up with a crew again, but not before he incurred multiple bounties and warrants for his arrest, due to an extensive rap sheet.
What should we call you? - Sparrow, or by my character name Elgyn
Roleplaying Experience - the verse, Battlestar Hyperion, and hopefully here

Post Script - For the sake of the application and understanding the character, I have given a lot of backstory to you, the readers. The intention I have for this character however, is that his background would be a mystery. He is a natural fighter no doubt, but his specialty lies in his knowledge. Comparable characters to him would be someone like Gandalf from LOTR or Jack Sparrow from POTC. In every case, there is some captivating mystery to those characters, and due to an extensive experience that is considered legendary, they use their knowledge to guide people. I would like to create a similar persona here. He's the go-to person when people visit a new place or need a contact in case of an emergency.

Roleplay Example -
By midday the sun was at its hottest, and loomed over Elgyn unforgivably. He wasn't sure how long he'd been wandering in the desert, since time seemed to slow down. Still, he continued to move one foot forward, and walked toward what he assumed was civilization.
The sea of sand seemed to stretch far in all directions. Trapped in a barren wasteland, his hopes began to fade with each step.
Off in the distance towards the dunes, he saw a metallic flash of the sun hitting some object. He wasn't sure if it was a mirage, if he'd finally gone crazy, but he hoped otherwise. Like a madman, he waved his arms and screamed, trying to get whomever that was their attention. It wasn't until the ship got closer did he recognize the Alliance insignia on the side.
"Crap." he mumbled.

Back at the station in town, he was placed in a seat in a interrogation room. There was an empty table and chair opposite to him, and he remained quiet until he received some company.
The Alliance officer sat down. His uniform was pristine, his hair perfectly cut. He must've been a transfer from a core-planet, as he looked too fresh. Elgyn smirked.
"So. This is interesting..." he started, and placed a small device on the table. "I thought this outpost on this godforsaken planet would be terribly dull. Yet 3 weeks in to my transfer, I get a call that a patrol picked up none other than the infamous Amir Elgyn."
The room quickly drew silent. Elgyn shrugged. "Here I am."
"Yes! Yes you are." the officer laughed, and leaned back into his chair. "The Alliance has been hunting you for years. You've certainly generated quite the reputation for yourself." He then tapped on the small device, and a hologram appeared. It was a list.
"Every felony you've committed." the officer explained.
"The known ones at least." Elgyn replied.
The officer sighed, then continued. "Multiple counts of theft, armed robbery, smuggling, resisting arrest, forgery, subduing an officer of the law..."
Elgyn smiled. "Tell Rebecca I say hi."
"You've been a busy, busy boy. I'm going to enjoy sending you to prison" the officer said.
"Good luck with that" Elgyn replied calmly. His coyness only angered the Alliance official, and he quickly rose from the table and stormed out of the room.
"Get that man in a cell!" he barked to the jailor. The large Alliance soldier nodded and entered the room. The two men stared at each other before he finally spoke up.
"Long time no see Elgyn." the jailor said, handing him the keys.
The prisoner grinned from ear to ear.
