 HistoryThe Peerless began her days as one of many cogs in the terraforming machine. Capable of performing both transport duties as well as more scientific tasks, many Prometheus class vessels found their way into the booming industry of creating new worlds. In 2571, however, the ship (then called CM-88B Crescent) was pulled from terraforming for the more mundane transport industry. It was while making a large resource run from the border worlds into the Core in 2575 that the Crescent fell victim to the Starship Supertrade. For all official records, the ship disappeared, lost to one of a million potential dangers of space travel. In reality it had been stolen "liberated" by agents of the Syndicate and taken on the false identity of another ship. Rather than simply being sold off in a quick turnaround, the Prometheus class vessel was modified for combat purposes. By 2576, the vessel was one of many supplied to the Commonwealth for their ongoing war in the Red Sun system. A young Roger Davis, still recovering from wounds received in combat, took ownership of the ship and led it into the war as a privateering vessel. Peerless saw all manner of action for the next year. The ship raided undefended trade routes but also occasionally supplied regular military operations. However, by 2577 the war came to an end and so too did Peerless's privateering days. For the past five years, Peerless has shifted slightly into civilian life as a mercenary ship taking contracts as they come. |

The Joke (OOC) Why Peerless? It's a decent name for a ship but it actually came into the discussion of possible names merely as a joke... a reference probably no one here would understand lest I explain it. Raffles v. Wichelhaus is a 1864 case that is THE leading standard for mutual mistake in English Common Law. Basically, the moral of the story is that if there is no meeting of the minds in a contract then the contract is voided. That's the important message to take away if you're a lawyer but it's not what's interesting about the case. The case is about the sale of cotton in England. As a bit of background, this occurs in the early 1860s. England is totally pwning the world when it comes to the Industrial Revolution and of course the textile industry was huge. Meanwhile, those pesky Americans were fighting a war and the supply of raw cotton from the US South was drying up both due to the basic needs of the war straining the economy but more importantly the Union blockade of southern ports. It was this demand for cotton which led European countries like the great abolitionist Britain to actually support the slave holding South during the war and even threatened military intervention. With the primary source of cotton dried up, the demand soared well above the supply and of course the costs soared too. Thus an even greater emphasis was placed on acquiring the cotton hence this being a contract case for the delivery of the raw goods. It also saw a great desire to get out of paying high prices if at all possible, hence the argument over the contract in this case. India stepped up to the plate to sate Britain's cotton needs and that's where our story begins. Raffles and Wichelhaus contracted for the delivery of cotton from India to Britain at a fixed and predetermined price per bale. The cotton was to be delivered on the ship "Peerless" sailing from Bombay to Liverpool. The dispute arose when the ship arrived and they tried to make delivery of the cargo. As it turned out, there were TWO ships named Peerless that were arriving in Liverpool having sailed from Bombay and both were carrying cotton. Actually, when the court researched it, there were more like SEVEN ships all with the same name and doing the same route. If you thought that story was boring and a waste of time then have pity on me. That is the most exciting and humorous the cases get with the exception of one warrantless search case in which the appellate opinion read "After a brief exchange, Henderson told the officers to 'get the fuck out of my house' which the district court reasonably construed as an objection to a search." |

July - Rosalind Merrick takes on a bounty hunting contract disguised as her mother. She fails in the effort but is saved by her mother who soon steers her troubled child toward a career in medicine.
August - Roger Davis enters the Commonwealth Academy to be educated as an officer.
October - Amanda Ayers is murdered. The investigation ends inconclusively.
- Asher Ayers enters Agate Academy.
January - Vitale Demato enlists with the Alliance Marine Corps and fights in the Six Years War.
2571May - Desmond Matheson graduates college and immediately enters the Alliance Army which is currently involved in the Six Years War.

April - The Red Pact War (AKA the War of Containment) erupts in the Red Sun system between Jiangyin and the Red Pact.

May - Roger Davis graduates from the Academy and is commissioned as an officer in the Verbena Armed Services.
June - Desmond Matheson returns home to defend his sister Lorenia from his father. He threatens to kill his own father if his behavior continues.
July - Desmond Matheson follows through with his previous threat and kills his father for again laying his hands on Lorenia. Desmond goes AWOL and begins his life on the run as an apprentice to a master smith on the Centurion, a mercenary ship.

2579 January - Abigail Gunn begins her transformation into Rachel Keller. She soon joins the Syndicate and progresses up the ranks.

2582 January - Claire Kessler dies after a two year battle with a degenerative condition. Asher Ayers seeks a new life.
March - Asher Ayers contacts his old friend Nate Atkin and joins the Peerless.
- Esmay Willow attempts unauthorized human testing on Jeremiah Clark in an attempt to save his life. The authorities are notified and in the process the lab and Jeremiah are seized, her father is incarcerated, and Esmay is forced to flee.
April - Onas Knox hires the Peerless to hunt Marcus Lee. Abigail Gunn joins the Peerless.
- Rosalind Merrick rejoins the Peerless. Cho Mai joins the Peerless.
- The Peerless raids Cobalt operations on Santo. Corvey is taken prisoner. Cho Mai leaves the Peerless. Esmay Willow joins the Peerless.
