NPC CrewThe Peerless is a large ship with a large crew. It's simply not feasible to have a fully PC crew particularly for some of the more menial tasks no one would want to RP nor do we particularly want 20 PCs all on one ship. The NPCs also serve as placeholders for other positions on the ship which need to be filled but might be replaced by a PC character in the future.
Certain NPCs may have the option for character discovery. If you like that NPC and would like to create more of their backstory, and perhaps custom tailor that NPC to be your character's bestest BFF (à la Kyle Montgomery being Jericho's cousin and helping her find her home aboard) then this is your chance! Mitch has been the shuttle pilot for the Peerless since the vessel was first equipped with a shuttle shortly after the PMC was founded. The Peerless is now on her third shuttle, but still maintains the original pilot. More so than most ships the Peerless relies heavily on her one shuttle. A lot of mileage is put on them and often they are flown into dangerous conditions and thus don't tend to last very long. A constant demand for shuttle insertions means job security for Mitch. He's a hell of a pilot with the small crafts, able to coast in smooth like passenger liner or speed through tight turns and heavy crossfires.
Once upon a time Mitch served with the Commonwealth of Nations due to his origins on Aberdeen. He has seen plenty of action in his day, and right at the end of his military career he even served as helmsmen for the Omaha, a Verbenan frigate of war. Old war stories are pretty common as are new ones because if you ask Mitch there isn't much of a difference between the CoN and the Peerless, just less uniforms.
How to RP Mitch:Well he's not finished yet, poor guy has no super thought out life story, but we do have a basic idea for the man. Mitch has a welsh accent and can be a heavy flirter with any female on the crew, but he is generally well liked and his jokes are pretty smooth most of the time, so the gals don't really mind him. He is a professional, however, and also very smart so keep that in mind when you're puppeteering him. But on the average day you can keep Mitch relaxed and witty.
Speech Pattern: (Welsh Accent)
Litmus: "Hello, my name is [Blank]."
"What the **** is wrong with you!"
"You guys are my favorite people."
Mitch: ""Oi, 'ello mae', me name is Mitch."
"Wha' the **** is wrong with ye?"
"Ye mae's are my faevori' people."

Lewis was described by his mother as “slow in the head but with a strong back” most of his life. He is a self-fulfilling prophesy of sorts. With little support and little help coupled with an addict mother and father figures who came and went revolving-door style, it was little wonder that he ended up dropping out of any sort of organized education effort on some backwater planet and working odd jobs.
As a teenager, he was a drug runner for a time. Then, he was a bouncer. He learned pretty quickly that his size made him intimidating, so he came to see his strength as his greatest—perhaps only—asset. He worked factory jobs, anything that promised something steady, and eventually found his way into the employment of Onas Knox.
When he got on as a ripper, stripping starships of their metal skin and gutting them for their restoration under a false security code, Brilee Gabriel was his supervisor. It was pretty obvious that Lewis was going to fail at the job. Here was a man who was built to be imposing, somebody who looked like he should have been a guard or a bouncer, who wanted nothing to do with that side of it. Lewis was a gentle person, laid-back and kind. He wasn't cut out for the work, but he ended up being decent with the assistance of Brilee, a co-worker and fellow ripper named Gabriel Fernandez, and Rachel Keller.
When Rachel Keller was promoted to foreman, she kept him doing heavy lifting, and kept him partnered with Gabriel. In short, he caused more work for his crew mates, but his friends, like Rachel and Gabriel, more than made up for his shortcomings. When Rachel was moved to the rank of Enforcer, Fernandez took her place, and Lewis was without his mentor. He nearly caused a very bad accident in the warehouse, and he was moved to transporting.
Transporting is the job with the highest casualty rate in the Syndicate. It is lower paid and outside of main operations, thus outside of main protection. It's not uncommon for a driver to be shot or stabbed en route, dependent on the route, and for this reason if no other, Rachel Keller requested he be brought with her aboard the Peerless. On ship, Lewis basically does heavy lifting and other menial tasks, perhaps playing the part of intimidating while not really having the heart for it.
Lewis is a good guy, helpful, not the brightest, but definitely good-hearted. He wouldn't be above petty theft and light contraband use. He tends to refer to his superiors by rank (he still calls Keller “boss lady” even though she's no longer his superior, for instance).
It has been suggested that Lewis has a secret desire to be a tattoo artist, and may have participated in amateur adult entertainment in the form of sex holotapes.[/ul]
How to RP Lewis:For the most part Lewis will shamelessly, even sometimes eerily, flirt with the gals. He comes from a very rough background and has been treated pretty much like an idiot most of his life. Who knows what's really going on in his head though. For the most part, when RPing Lewis, we like to keep him subtly in a state of half confusion and half simply not listening. He is a mountain, can aid your character in their work, and is generally the most used and useful NPC on the ship. Lewis continues to find his way into posts everywhere, and this has led to plenty of humorous moments. He has a pretty open crush/deification of Abigail Gunn and will always continue referring to her as Keller for so long as we RP him.
Speech Pattern: (Heavy Slang)
Litmus: "Hello, my name is [Blank]."
"What the **** is wrong with you!"
"You guys are my favorite people."
Lewis: “What's up? Name's Lewis.”
“You're so dumb. That's just dumb... Dummy.”
“Y'all a'ight! I like all y'all!"

Kyle's family is from Hera originally, but he lived much of his adult life on the Gateway. He worked a few tours as a ripper in the Syndicate before "out growing" it and retiring on his quick earned fortune. You'd be surprised how fast a reckless young man can burn up a few million plat. Soon Kyle found himself looking for work again and found it on the Peerless by reference through an old contact in the Syndicate. He joined up very early into the Peerless's mercenary career. Kyle Montgomery is a distant relative of Harper Montgomery (third cousin once removed) and assisted his even more distant cousin Jericho escape from Prophet and seek refuge on the Peerless.
How to RP KyleKyle is just one of the guys. He's pretty smooth and an ex-ripper. So for now, until someone really works out his style, he's a fantastic engineer. As a former ripper, Kyle would have been expected to know more than just engines and electronics. He'd have been expected to pull apart anything and everything and put it back together. He'd have learned plenty about skating the law with using stolen parts and masking them so not even the manufacturer could tell the difference. When you think ex-ripper, think people who can fix anything we throw at 'em. He also would be an ex-millionaire so expect some wild stories, and go ahead and drum up one for him at your leisure in a post for background noise!
Speech Pattern: (Casual Slang)
Litmus: "Hello, my name is [Blank]."
"What the **** is wrong with you!"
"You guys are my favorite people."
Kyle: "Ky. Don't call me Kyle. call me Ky."
"**** You! Get outta' ma face!"
"Man, you guys are off the chain."

Marco was born on Persephone Prime and grew up around starships. His parents rented an apartment near the docks, and he spent a lot of time around dockyards and observing ships. He's actually from a rural area of Persephone, not the famous cities. The dockyards in overly condensed spaces like the Eavesdown docks were starting to expand with ports outside of the cities to help with overcrowding and high workloads. His first job was in a shop repairing components of ships and sometimes vessels themselves. The shop was a place where Eavesdown outsourced work when it was overloaded. Whenever an order came in from the city, they had to make repairs quickly, from fixing an engine to harboring an entire ship that needed extensive work. Teporatz was the closest major city, and over time it began to swallow his home town. Crime came with that expansion making the area less and less appealing for the inhabitants. In '76 when the Peerless was first started, he was looking for adventure, not really caring whose war he was getting into. It was just a way to get out of rural Persephone and see the 'Verse without becoming a career criminal.
How to RP Del' MarcoDel' Marco is a perfectionist. He can be grating, as while he is highly intelligent he is also constantly correcting people in their grammar and other mistakes. It's not really an arrogant thing with him even though he may come across as arrogant to others. He is just really oblivious to the way he comes across and very matter-of-fact in his presentation. While Jonathan has a sense of humor, his sense of humor would be related to the inner workings of the ship and thus come across very blandly (or not really come across as funny at all).
Speech Pattern: (Proper Western English)
Litmus: "Hello, my name is [Blank]."
"What the **** is wrong with you!"
"You guys are my favorite people."
Jonathon: "Good evening. My name is Jonathan Del' Marco. And you are?"
"You are an insult to whatever demographic you belong too."
"You men are always a pleasure... Ladies, you are too."

Luther is the third "Musketeer" in engineering. Jokingly called "Vandy" by Marco, Luther is the most recent of the three to come aboard. With the Peerless getting a substantial weapons overhaul at the time, another mechanic seemed appropriate to deal with the increased number of systems. Luther was born in Constance, one of the planets under the Commonwealth of Nations. He served on a frigate during the war as an aerospace engineering officer. His entire job was keeping the ship in good running condition and in a state of combat readiness, and he did his job very well. When his contract was up, he mustered out. He couldn't quite get acclimated to civilian life again, so when the opportunity came to join the Peerless, he was all for it.
How to RP LutherPoor Luther is a fine example of not having been seen much to date. By all means, USE HIM! Be creative, or just have him in the background. He was a soldier, but that doesn't mean he was gung ho, just a man who got involved like so many of his fellow countrymen. Remember that like so many other NPCs, Luther has been aboard longer than most PCs, so keep him hard working and content with the crew and his job.
Speech Pattern: (Military Slang)
Litmus: "Hello, my name is [Blank]."
"What the **** is wrong with you!"
"You guys are my favorite people."
Luther: "Hey, name's Luther. Nice to meet 'cha!"
"You're actin' like a real ****tard right now! Nobody likes a Blue Falcon!"
"Hey, Hey! You guys ain't that bad!"

Charlie or Chuck is from the same region of Persephone as Del Marco. Back in '76 when Roger first acquired the Peerless, Charlie was one of his first hires for the then privateering vessel. When the ship turned merc, Del' Rio just stayed on with Davis.
Charlie is what you'd call a career criminal. He did some petty theft back as a teen and into his young adult years. He actually joined up with Davis for the war as an escape from the long arm of the law which wanted him behind bars. It made sense at the time, stay out of jail, have an entire army keeping the feds off you, and maybe make a few plat in the process. Turns out a war is a little rougher than life on the street even removed from it as a privateer, but Chuck adapted to the life and has been on the Peerless ever since.
Currently he serves as Peerless's Boatswain (Bosun) which basically translates to being a supervisor of everyone else (except the captain and his officers). You might say he's the highest ranking of all the NPCs.
Charlie is a jack-of-all-trades but master of none. He can lend a hand most places around the ship and also serves as the procurement liaison for the ship. He's also in charge of most of the minor miscellaneous duties aboard the ship. Meals, basic maintenance, ship stores, shared equipment, etc. are all under his authority. Lewis and Jericho are his primary underlings though Charlie has the authority to conscript anyone else (e.g. he grabs one of the engineering boys to fix that dead light bulb in the starboard corridor).
How to RP CharlieOn a personal level, Charlie can be a bit cold and professional as befits his position though he is still "just one of the crew" and does not rise to the level of separation the captain can sometimes reach. He'll joke, gamble, and drink with the rest but he's a strict overseer when work needs to be done. In particular, Chuck respects time aboard ship seeing as how he is among the most senior, and he can be a bit rough on newcomers that have yet to prove themselves[/ul]
Speech Pattern: (Cross between British and Australian.)
Litmus: "Hello, my name is [Blank]."
"What the **** is wrong with you!"
"You guys are my favorite people."
Del' Rio: " 'Ows 'et goin', mate? Name's Charles. Mos' peopla call meh Del' Rio"
"Ouuw Yeh Goddam Wankar! Get Off Et!"
"Oi coul' stay 'ere tha rest of me days."

Nate came up the list of potential pilots on Roger's watchlist by piloting large blockade runners back in the war. Not just the Red Pact War either, he also ran for three other wars across four of the five systems. The only place Nate hasn't broken battleline laws is inside the White Sun system itself! He and Davis knew of each other through Davis' supply lines for the unit he was in, but that was only a brief meet and greet at best. In '76, however, when the Peerless was no longer a pipe dream and was to be a reality, Davis got serious about a crew. Fortunately Nate was out of a job at the time. He was out of a job because of an incident, an incident where he crashed a starship and was allegedly intoxicated. No hands had been lost, but most of the cargo and Nate's official license had been. Davis had been looking seriously at Nate's career and had been able to see past the stain on it that no one else wanted to, and gave the man his second shot. Since then it's been smooth sailing, and as it happens Nate never drinks and flies, unlike the other pilots on the ship...
How to RP NateNate has a great sense of humor and gets along with everyone famously. As it is, very few people go up on the bridge to simply hang out, and very few conversations take place for him. With that in mind, Nate is always available to chat and loves to hear stories. He's a listener and has learned to just sit back and be silent. He's content with that. In point of fact,
staying around and talking too much may be the very thing to make him mad. Many times though you will hear him listening to music, and if he has sat in total silence for a long period of time, he may let out a loud exclamation for the hell of it, without a reason.
Speech Pattern: (Eclectic Accent)
Litmus: "Hello, my name is [Blank]."
"What the **** is wrong with you!"
"You guys are my favorite people."
Nate: Nate spent too much time in space, and as a byproduct, has no particular accent. This means that he will attain his accent from those around him, making him a mocking bird of the way you talk. So, when speaking, he will begin to sound like you. So the question is, how would you say it?

Originally a ranch hand on Greenleaf, Ollie quickly found that his father's ranch grew the wrong things. As time went by, he found new work that payed in sums that his family couldn't fathom. His employer found Ollie's quick thinking and earned respect useful, and put him on starships as trusted help. From there, Ollie bounced between Persephone and several border worlds in the drug trade until 2572 when he ran across a better deal. Ryan (Onas' lead pilot) offered Ollie a deal in the supertrade, and Knox honored it. In time his rim world ways were brushed away and replaced by city standards. Mafia and gangs may not have been new to him, but cities were.
Ollie worked as a navigation officer and co-pilot for Ryan under the Syndicate. The job was reasonably similar to what he'd been doing, just lots more of it. Though, if you know anyone from the Syndicate, it was a common tale. In time, Ollie became known for three things, insomnia, cards, and women. If he can get along with you on these things, then you won't have any problems with him. Just don't bet him money in a card game, he'll clean you out.
Ollie has many tattoos, will fight if cornered, and is addicted to Shotadren Alserin. As with all crew members that spent time working in the Syndicate, Kuznits is good enough at his job to call it overkill. By any other standard, he should have been promoted to his own pilot seat by now, but that promotion comes few and far between in this outfit. Ollie is fiercely loyal, and during his time so far aboard the Peerless, as well as his time in the Syndicate, that attitude served him and continues to serve him well.
Ollie retired from the Syndicate in 2580 and looked up Roger Davis as a means to continue working. He'd seen too many Syndicate members leave and come right back because they'd lost their fortunes, or just plain go crazy like so many rich people are prone to do. Davis knew Ollie from contracts from their time in the war, as Persephone had been a large part of that war. Davis hired Ollie with some reservations as he'd seen a lot of negatives as well as positives with that organisation, but in the end it turned out to be a fine choice, and Ollie has brought his loyal work ideals as well as his professionalism over to the Peerless.[/ul]
How to RP OllieOllie is quiet like Nate, but smooth like Mitch, with a touch of Charles' work ethic. He is still addicted to Shota, so he appears to never sleep, and the variant of Shota that he takes has him crash out every week on the last day (Saturday). It's no more than 12 hours, but it is nearly impossible to wake him during that time. This is a clockwork pattern and is always between the hours of 2 AM and 2 PM... every Saturday.
Another thing to keep in mind is that he has a rich sense of style and enjoys things to be in perfect working order. An interesting sidenote, Ollie helps Davis foot the bill on all that expensive food Jericho enjoys bakin' up, as Ollie is still a millionaire from his work early in his life. Unlike so many before him and so many since, he never wasted his money and has several investments. So for inspiration, like say Rio, you might have her asking him about how to manage house repairs as he owns several and none of them are regularly broken into. So when your character is talking to him you might note internally that this guy has more money than anyone your character knows and how odd it is that he chooses without regret to keep on working.
Other than those extreme quirks, Ollie is as easy to get along with as you please, and will push for anyone dallying about the bridge in their downtime to play some cards. And to bet money, lots of money. Play at your own risk.
Speech Pattern: (Casual Slang)
Litmus: "Hello, my name is [Blank]."
"What the **** is wrong with you!"
"You guys are my favorite people."
Ollie: "Yo. Name's Ollie K. But you can call me handsome... doll."
"Step Off! I'll rack you in the face you try it again. You feel me?!"
"You's good people. I mean nat."

Trux is a four year old Kleiner Münsterländer Roger acquired back on Verbena shortly after starting the PMC. The two quickly become a bit of an inseparable pair and it simply didn't make sense to leave the dog at home.
How to RP TruxTrux is well disciplined, following a variety of commands from Roger, and yes he is ship-broken and won't crap in your bunk. Other than when "working" (i.e. following orders from his master) Trux is generally active and inquisitive. It's not uncommon for him to walk the ship by himself, give a good smell to anything or anyone new to the ship, find food wherever it may be, search for someone to scratch him behind the ear, etc.
Speech Pattern: (Casual Münsterländer)
Litmus: "Hello, my name is [Blank]."
"What the **** is wrong with you!"
"You guys are my favorite people."
Trux: Will come up and sniff you at crotch level, then bark until told to heel. May also jump up on you if excited.
Will find your bed and crap beside it, or growl angrily at you directly.
Will sit by you and pant happily, waiting for petting.
Hey, you didn't think the Peerless was nothing but tough guys and killing, did you?[/ul][/div]
